The New Home Base & Training Ground Thread

South Side - closer to my place. Probably an easier build

North Side - better commercially as it is visible from Caulfield Station. Also there are existing tunnels

South side = our own space vs shared facilities in the north.

North side close to MRC facilities, which could cause issues and further away from ovals.

South side stand alone area away from MRC facilities and adjacent to ovals.

The old adage no news is good news definitely does not ring true here.

I was definitely in favour of replacing the likes of Pert and Roffey due to their lack of progress regarding the home base. Guerra in particular and Smith come in chests beating, yet it’s as quiet as it has ever been.

Honestly us Demonlanders could probably do a better job at getting this whole saga moving in a positive direction. [censored].

Well I gave it a try and got some genuine but limited support (from Dlanders) and total ignorance from the club itself (questions put to Pert at and after AGM). I think most other attempts also foundered as the committee pursued its own efforts and rebuffed any alternatives.

I am still hoping for any positive reports on Caulfield which has some obvious attractions but unlike Redleg I will be unlikely to visit.

I still maintain the club centre should be an accommodation, entertainment, retail site where supporters can gather to watch training but can attend when we have away or sold out games. As an administrative centre it would also improve member interaction and strengthen the club.

I also think much of the resistance is from the traditionists who cling to an MCG location.

North side, south side...

TBH I don't think we will know anything for months yet. If we have a home base by 2030 I'll be amazed!

This is getting beyond a joke now!

We are 6 weeks away from the start of the 2026 season and we've heard Puck all!

South side has its own vehicle access. Tons of parking, close to Glen Huntly station which also has quite a bit of parking. Nth side has a carpark that will (mostly) be built over for our and others' buildings. Very close to Caulfield Station.

I would put money on Putin standing down and saying it was wrong to invade Ukraine and give all their land back and Finland's land they too during WW2 before we would have an announcement of a home ground by round 1.

Having cause to park in that northern area recently and take it all in as a location.... well... the South is by far the better outcome.... should it come to be.

Also prefer south side location, as there would be no compromises needing to be made on facility design, compared to a more cramped northern site with other developments using up preferable space

It is just incredible that after a "feasibility case" run for 12 months, and a "business case" for another 12 months, that we don't even know where the foundations are going to be laid (if at all)!

We are being treated like mushrooms...kept in the dark and fed BS.

Sadly most Demonlanders will be well & truly deceased before anything of substance happens.

This post should be sent in its entirety to the club. The ‘real’ supporters of the club aren’t the simpletons who turn up to the AGM asking irrelevant questions no doubt doctored by the board, it’s the ones trying to hold them to account but keep getting censored.

Not a great gambling man but you can see this road leading to a dead end

Reading this thread there appears 2 groups. The first appears to be a small group of people who have some, what appears to be legitimate information and they remain cautiously optimistic of success. The second group is largely everyone else who thinks this will, or likely already has, crashed and burned. I'm backing Group 1 until they join group 2.

You are not alone Gorgoroth. I don’t believe the Racing club want to share. They have had it all to themselves for 150 years and believe they can out wait schools and pesky football clubs. They simply don’t want us or anyone else there. Drag it out till November this year and chances are there will be a change of government and it all starts again. A minority liberal government held in place by the right winger from QLD. That will be too hard for them and the MRC will carry on all by themselves.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
