    Remedial kick time.

    Defenders kick to kick around the arc.

    Small forward snaps.

    Forwsrd entries for plenty.

    petty, Brown, Preuss, Tomlinson, Viney doing 2 v 1 make a decision and kick short or medium

    Langdon, Sparrow, Vanders picking up in the middle, giving a fend and trying to hit a lead up forward coming at them. 

    Nice to see drills tailored for individual players

    Seems to me that today’s training isn’t the full blown thing but more of a PR exercise given players away at Jake Melksham’s wedding and others in rehab etc.

    Does anyone know if Harley Bennell’s going up to Maroochydore as he presumably won’t be taking part in any intense training. Wouldn’t it be better to remain here to do the limited work he’s doing under his current circumstances?

    I hope his own opinion of how he is going is helping decide about the camp.

    Could he possibly have a trip home to WA? He missed Christmas at home(WA) in his positive attitude to get back onfield and give it his best shot. I just hope he feels fully embraced by the club as he goes through the highs and lows of recovery.

    I would have thought that if we had any notion of signing him up, he should be going to Maroochydore. One of the great aspects of the Qld training camp is the bonding that occurs - and IMV would be worth going for that alone.

    In addition, wouldn't all the medical staff (docs, physios, etc) also be at the camp? If so, his recovery may be better managed if he's where the support staff are.

    Absolute best thing for Harley will be when season starts and fans and media are not interested in him and he can just get on with it.

    Been very difficult to get over but I am however twice his age.

    The arm is a trial. Pretty soon all limbs will be similarly fitted so that Goody can remotely control from the coaches box (or the bunker)! Look forward to all players running out for Round 1 if it proves a success.

    With so many best 22 on wedding duties it seems, it was interesting to watch the rest, in particular the newbies. 
             First thing I was looking at were general ball-handling skills. For mine, the clear standouts are Salem, Jetta and Fritsch. A gap, then Petracca, Oliver, OMac, Petty, May, Lever, Hore (all just natural ball players). A negligible gap to the rest, and nobody stood out as being below par for an AFL list. Skills were very pleasing, but then today’s conditions are perfect.
              Work-rate, or just general effort, I would say Viney, Petracca, Nibbler, Jetta, Jordon, Sparrow (keen as), who all seem to push that bit harder for longer. Again, no player was lacking in energy or output. 
               Most pleasing difference to last year is seeing Vanders at full tilt, same for Lever, OMac as most physically impressive of the big boys (aside from Tomlinson), Preuss looking ripped,  Viney out front of every running drill, Weid seeming to own his size, the effortless, innate ball skills of newbies Jackson and Rivers, Spargo looking sharp and slippery (until he departed), the easy pace of Langdon, and a general sense of competitive urgency, despite that it was only training. 
            A fit, available list is the primary essential for success over a season, so we’re looking in very good shape for the opening. Fingers crossed.

    These are my most pleasing aspects of this preseason too.

    The training session was pretty cruisy. The first thing i noticed is how slim all of the players are. Obviously forgoing strength for a gain in speed which was necessary as we were slow as f$%k last year. jetta looks in great shape, as does Petracca. Everyone else just looks slim. 

    One of the drills was the players doing 4 or 5  backwards somersaults on the ground then getting up dazed to tackle a player. I thought it was a stupid drill and at what point in the history of our game has a player been required to do that. Oliver was basically passing out from either lower blood pressure or being dazed. not a good look i front of all of the kids but more importantly a stupid drill. Could have spent that time doing goal kicking practice. 

    Rivers, runs well but his kicking needs a lot of work.  Jackson was unsighted in all of the match sim stuff so we need to temper our expectations on him. 

    Joel Smith was playing defence. Personally i think he is better forward but regardless he needs to be in the team as we are simply too slow otherwise.

    Pretty much noticed the same Webber. Thought Salem, Jetta and Viney were the standouts during the match sim. Salem and Jetta were especially clean with ball, the former looking really good running from half back and through the centre/wing delivering the ball flawlessly.  

    On the negative side, J Smith had a couple of costly turnovers with no pressure from defence, noticed he was cursing himself afterwards. Kicking needs improvement from what I saw. 

    The session would have been close to 3 hours? We arrived at 9:30 and they were already out there. A great turnout by supporters also.

    Same here. 3mnths for me and still have little strength in arm...I'm maybe 2.5x Brayshaws age....

      Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans.Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

      For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

    • CASEY: UWS Giants

      The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
