Harley Bennell Injury

Brad Hardie just mentioned on 6PR that Port Melbourne are in contact with Bennell because the rumour is his rookie chance at MFC isn’t looking likely.

Yes I know.... it’s Brad Hardie.

This has the Hardie logic about it.

The only reason we wouldn't sign Bennell is if he can't get on the track...

Port have so much money they had to rattle the tin to keep on the park.

Can just see them shelling out for a player that can't get on the track and doesn't ever look like it (if we weren't to sign him)...

...but I guess stranger things have happened.

I’d like to think this will work out for Harley, can’t fault the man’s endeavour of late. It counts for something.

Hardie is a [censored].r of the highest order, I had the displeaasure of knowing him when he was at the bulldogs when he became very friendly with the brother of a mate of mine.

The only reason that mfc wouldn't sign Harley is if it looked like he would never play again and that would include Port melbourne.

Yep, we took Harley up to QLD because we have too much cash in the coffers and need to [censored] some up against a wall.

Have to laugh when Hagdorn and Langdon praise Hardie for getting a scoop, he's only ever repeated something he's heard earlier in the day on Vic radio.

Great player and very skillful but a shocking sports journo

It’s quite the Indictment on Perth weekend talk back stations when I found myself listening to those two muppets.

I must have watched this clip a good 10 or 20 times now.  Absolutely mesmerizing stuff.  Would look even better in a red and blue jumper in frount of a packed MCG!

Got me thinking about just what a good player he is.  I was disappointed when we missed out on Prestia, but if Harley can get those calfs right, just what a prize recruit he would be.

It's been so long since he's been injured that I had to remind myself just what a gun player Harley has been in years past, so went browsing YouTube.  Found the below video which certainly backs up others comments about the shot on goal from the boundary being no fluke.

Interestingly part way into the video it make a mention of him having problems with his calfs way back then.  Let's hope the operation he had has nailed the main source of the issue.

Exactly how friendly are we talking?

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

If he does get back on the park, I certainly hope someone holds up the banner 'Because he's Harley Bennell, and you're not!'

My contact up on Sunny Coast that told me about Maxy (great news being not as bad as first thought) chatted with HB and he mentioned calf better than what was reported but is aware if it pings again he is gone as a Dee.

Does your contact work for the club or is connected to the club in some form (retarded question I know) or did he just see maxy carried off while watching the boys train?

I have to keep reminding myself that it has not always been around.

I can still remember the days when we got a two hour black and white replay on Saturday night of a game a week.

In the interview that was mostly about Gawn, Mahoney said Bennell’s calf strain set his rehab back 3 or 4 days and it’s the kind of issues they were expecting to encounter. He said Bennell has done everything asked, is popular among the team, and even explicitly said he was well placed to earn a contract. That’s as close to “it’s locked in” as you will ever hear.

So I guess Brad Hardie was pretty close when he said a MFC contract looked unlikely ? I honestly wish I could make a living out of just making s*** up.

And not every game was fully broadcast on radio, either. It's hard to believe today that in the 1960s three radio stations (what were then called 3UZ, 3DB and 3LO) would prefer to call the races in preference to calling a football match. If our game was scheduled for one of those racing broadcasters, you heard virtually nothing about the game and saw nothing later because cameras were only at the games which the TV stations showed replays of. No wonder a team like hours, which was rarely worthy of TV replay time had a missing generation of supporters. We had virtually no media exposure.

When I was a boy, I thought 3KZ was one of the best stations. It had Ian Major and Jack Dyer calling the game and I thought they didn't have the races.

Correct weight at Sandown. Back to Don Hyde at the MCG.  Alves streams down the wing, kicks in the direction of Wells who turns and fires it to the goal square. DITTERICH FLIES AND Now for the 4th at Mildura, the Dodgy Brothers stakes, a six furlong maiden ....

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
