Jamie was handy (esp the Sticks effort) but I reckon that the job on Dermie was done by another good import, Peter Rohde, in 1990.

For what it's worth, when they played with us, I think White was the better ruckman but could not play any other position. I can't recall Ditterich playing anywhere with us other than as a ruckman. I would only pick one ruckman, so I would choose White. Peter Moore can provide the back-up.

You tell Carl he's not playing 'La Dee'....

Personally I would play him off the bench to clean up any issues we may have with opposition players.

Before coming to Melbourne:

Paul Roos (2014-16) coached Sydney in (2002-10)

Neil Craig (2013) coached Adelaide in (2004-11)

John Northey (1986-92) coached Sydney in 1985. 

Bobby Skilton (1974-77) coached Sth Melbourne (1965-66)

On results at MFC I would pick John Northey as coach of the Foreign Legion for he got as into the finals for the first time in a squillon years and a GF the following year. I have some fond memories of those years under Swooper.

Yeah, I was at this game too.

Carl was spent. He stood around the forward line, white head band and all, hoping to find the football kicked in his direction.

He was impotent. Whether he clocked a few blokes  or not didn't help us in the slightest. The Filth won comfortably - watching Kink was the best part of a bad day out for the Dees.

Several major omissions as far as I am concerned.

 

Henry Coles was an excellent rover & goal kicking fwd pocket for us.

Also in terms of talent surely Alan Davis & Phil Carman get in - both were brilliant players.

Cross, Crosswell & Clarkson were way past their best when they came to us & were only there to teach some of the younger players.

Great post Cranky and I love the collective knowledge of Demonlanders. My knowledge of players in the 70's is pretty sketchy

Seems that Henry Cole was a gem of a player for us and big V rep as as well.  And Allan Davis has a fine CV as well.  No doubts on talent, but unfortunately for Fabulous Phil the only real  impact he had once he left Collingwood was on Graham Carberry.

Yes, amongst many, this is a conundrum about Brent Crosswell. Unless contributors have seen the named players, it would be a tough task to make a token allocation in such a listing. BC was a great gathered asset; a man with great skills and execution that would surprise. I'd have him in any side, whereas another superstar, Kelvin Templeton, arrived at the Dees knobbled with post-surgical reduction (in skills and capacity to apply these) which was a tremendous sadness. Prior to his knee injuries, KT was the ultimate (perhaps the best CHF you ever saw) player with Footscray. He was unbeatable in that era, and no-one could control his contribution up forward. Nearly every game he played, he was BOG, by a mile. BC was not at the same standard of consistent lethality, yet reasonably close; yet, BC gets my nod between the two as he was less 'damaged' in his contribution to the Dees than KT. 

 

Some great contributions here. AsOD says the collective recall of Dlanders does provide inspiration. I hope the next (and the next) generation are able to do a similar excercise with our multiple premiership list post 2018

And on a slight tangent, if I recall correctly, one year under Bailey I believe we had only three players on the list who had previously been on the list of another AFL club. Brent Moloney would have been one; I can't recall the others. I suspect Bailey had the idea that a homegrown list is better than a Foreign Legion.

And the worst decision Bailey ever made (which still haunts us) was to overlook Dylan Grimes in the pre season draft & pick Joel McDonald instead.

And ya can't leave out Diamond Jim Tillbrook - recruited from SA in the eighties for a big bag of cash - had  A BIG BOOT ON HIM AND ALSO KICKED SEVEN OFF THE FORWARD FLANK AND THEN HAD A COUPLE OF MORE GAMES BEFORE EVERYONE (ELSE) WORKED OUT HE COULD ONLY TURN ONE WAY. ONE TRICK PONY WHO DIDN'T FINISH OUT THE SEASON!

What about Andrew Obst ex Port Adelaide? he was gun
