on toilet paper?

Perhaps we should have traded him to the Hawks and kept Frost!

Now conceptually, that is a brilliant thought. Fully supported, old dee, but it is difficult to turn back the hands of time - Frosty was the evolutionary excitement machine and just like the ripe peach, was plucked from the tree by an idle, craven onlooker.

Not quite, Petty has a bit of magic about him that may serve us well in the coming year.

Injuries to Jones at this point don't concern me anywhere near as much in 2020. The guy is very  close to his last season and based on last year he will struggle to be a regular. We will need to get on without him at best from 2021 it just may come a little earlier due to injury. Not having him in round 1 will make little difference to the result in WA.

Well done Old Dee. You've managed to combine the concession of a loss to West Coast with an injury to a stalwart of the club in one post. One sentence actually.  That will teach me not to start the year with optimism.

I actually think we can win the first game. Every player comes to the end  pd. I think Jones was close in 2019. 2020 might be a bridge too far.

agree but he is very young and not ready for being a regular key back. Also thought he looked better as a forward.

Training watchers indicated he was training solidly and well. The break may have been a negative if he came back and tried to step up at the same level. Alternatively it could be nothing at all.

He is a key player for us and it would be good to get some official advice from the club if for no other reason than to reassure demonland.

Although our propensity to exaggerate doom may only be enhanced through an announcement, maybe better to let us all diagnose with no fracking idea.

i favour swine flu following Ann announced holiday in China. He's doomed.

Agreed. As a forward.

Jay Clark reporting on twitter "Minor hiccups for two Demons. Steven May and Joel Smith have undergone surgery".

Good. And good on the club for getting the info out.

A benefit of a solid block of preseason training is mitigating the impact  these sort of hiccups.

It's 2020. We have speculated for a few days on May and I had to find out about Smith through a training report on here.

It's not just us. All clubs are massively behind most big international Sports when reporting to the fans. It's not a big deal, but I certainly wouldn't be congratulating them.

Official now. May a cyst, Smith an infected cut. Both back next week.

Jones managed.

I've heard that Jones has amazing skills for managing cysts and infected cuts. Thank Heavens for that, heh?

Which big international sports? Does soccer do it? Because certainly the NBA and NFL have stronger policies but teams don't obey them at all.

It's also preseason. Not games. Most international sports don't have such long preseasons and I doubt they have stringent policies on reporting in preseason.

Joel Smith it's one of the unluckiest blokes I can recall asking with Tim. Hope he gets a run at it this year

Agree on where we stand in the AFL in terms of info to fans. And dees have been hopeless even by that standard.

But may only injured himself last Wednesday i think and I'm pleased with some improvement.

From MFC website tonight. Sorry if this repeats anything.

MELBOURNE duo Steven May and Joel Smith both underwent minor procedures last week but are expected to be back running shortly. May experienced some discomfort in his knee during the holiday period, while Smith’s injury came in the unluckiest of fashion when he stood on a sharp object at the beach.

While the pair will be held back from the main group temporarily, performance manager Darren Burgess isn’t too concerned by the news. They’ve both had minor setbacks through no fault of their own,” Burgess told Melbourne Media. “Maysie had a cyst pressing on the nerve of his knee which required some treatment. His pre-season has been outstanding so far and this won’t affect his program going forward.

“Joel cut his foot while on holidays which was pretty unlucky. He treated it straight away and did all the right things, but that wound got a bit infected, so he’s just had to look after it.”

Although May and Smith will return to training via the rehab group, Burgess doesn’t see the injuries impacting their start to the 2020 season, expecting them both to be back on the track next week.

I worked in a shitty sales position for Sky television when I was on a working holiday visa in London 10 years ago.

At times they would get some of us to work for Chelsea and Manchester United to [censored] there Sky channels. Which was actually pretty good as the targets were reasonable, commisions were good and both clubs gave us plenty of extras. Plus I could talk sports to strangers all day

It was during the preseason and both clubs were excellent at relaying info to us sales staff to discuss with the fans. The info was on their websites and socials pretty quickly. Even if it was just "Lampard left the track early for scans"

The fans are rabbid and pay a small fortune just to attend games. They get info.

Fair enough, I don't follow soccer.

From the NBA there's plenty of cases of teams not disclosing info. The Nets right now are in a big circus with Kyrie Irving.

The NFL maintains a pretty strict protocol for who is missing practice and could miss games but teams break it all the time. Usually if they get investigated and found guilty the punishment doesn't bother them.
