I think the Doggies might take Weightman the pick before that unfortunately. if they do i reckon we're a chance to get Kemp with that pick.

otherwise i agree.

would be rapt with Green. looks a ready made player and a star of the future.

Yeah my selection is probably more hope than reality. Get the feeling we'll only get one out of Weightman and Pickett.

Lets hope Jackson isnt a bust.... to do the deals we have done for this year and next, wont want to stuff it up.

Pick 3 wasn't involved in any deal.

Might as well play along.

Jackson

Pickett

Hugo Ralphsmith, for the name alone.

1. Young

2. Pickett

Spoke to a contact last night and he gave me the below top 15. The ones in brackets are known amongst the industry as pretty much 100% going to happen. Not sure where the Green bid is going to come, but it appears to have dropped right down to around Carlton/Melbournes second pick for whatever reason. Absolute joke that GWS will get him so cheap!

GC - Rowell (confirmed)
GC - Anderson (confirmed)
Melb - Jackson (confirmed)
GWS - Ash
Syd - Flanders
Ade - McAsey
Freo - Young (confirmed)
Freo - Serong (confirmed)
Freo - Henry (match Carltons bid)
Carl - Stephens
Melb - Pickett
Haw - Kemp
Port - Berman
Dogs - Weightman

I've been told Carlton will 100% take Stephens if Freo don't. and the curve ball would be if the Crows picked him.

Not doubting your info, but by my info there's no chance Green goes outside the top 5-6 picks.

Yeah I was told Carlton likely bid on Henry, have it matched, then take Stephens.

I hope your mail is right! Mine was unsure and said it was now sounding later than originally expected. Sydney still a chance to bid, but seemed to have cooled/kept cards closer to chest.

So GWS get to a GF and get another couple of guns to add to their list. Reckon they’ll win a couple of flags in the next few years

I don't follow the draft because I don't feel I have any knowledge of the draftees, so my apologies for asking -  but what process leads to a grand finalist getting pick 4?

Trading and given ongoing benefits from the AFL. The AFL looking after their franchise at the detriment of struggling established clubs.

What a glorious and completely fair competition it currently is ?

Anybody know when live trading kicks in? Is it as soon as first pick is made or does it start an hour or 2 before?

They will if they play an interstate side at the G.

How do we not take Deven Robertson or Brodie Kemp if the picks before play out like that?

Because for whatever reason we rate Pickett higher than those two, despite exposed form showing otherwise.

Sydney's not bidding on Green.

That's damn impressive.  Right on almost all counts up to our second pick, including the bids on Henry and Green.

Yeah my source was pretty bang on.

Much to my dismay I knew about Jackson and Pickett about a week ago. I’ll see if I can find out anything about our early pick tonight.

Yep, well done mate, you nailed it!

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
