I'd rather Gawn take the title outright from Viney.

But that's just me personally..

Agree. Jack’s had his time.

How could you possibly know that? Unless you’re taking the [censored] of course.

Both the 'captain's call' by Goodwin (to have a co-cap and that it was to be Viney) and that Jones was blindsided were well publicised at the time.

iirc Jones wasn't even told there would be a co-cap until a day or two before the announcement and that Goodwin told him while playing golf with others.  Hardly a respectful way to advises a club champ that he would be sharing his job and sharing it with a kid who had yet to earn his stripes.

It's only an opinion based along with about  60/70 % of Dees fans views also.

The announcement that matters will be made in the Clubs good time after the players  votes.

Would be staggered if he wasn’t named co-captain. For some reason I can’t see Viney doing the gig himself, even after 3 or so years at the helm.

Gawn deserves to Captain this club. Hopefully his form doesn’t drop off as a result.

Max has filled the shortcoming gaps in the previous dual captaincy without blowing his own trumpet, and from this assistance to the Club and all players has displayed a loyalty, humility and insight for all players alongside the welfare of the Club itself. This has been unmistakable. He'd be a better Captain as a solo entity - no need for Viney to roll as a second string - not with Gawn's qualities.

“A lot of (teams) do it early, we pick our captains around February or March, but it has been Nathan Jones for seven years,” Gawn told SEN’s Bob and Andy.

“It is a job I’d love to do. I don’t think anyone would shy away from captaincy and I certainly wouldn’t. It’s the oldest club in the land and I’d love to do it.

“At the moment we have a captain who is one of the best young leaders in the competition so I’m pretty happy where I am at the moment and I know Jack would like to improve on a few things himself, but he is the captain and a great young leader.”

“No (it’s not the right time for Gawn). Jack Viney is the captain of Melbourne, he’s had some challenges, but I’m okay with that,” Dal Santo told SEN Breakfast.

“Everything you hear about Jack Viney, I don’t know him personally, but the way he plays his football and the way he leads that football club, he had injuries and I understand all of that.

“Max Gawn is no less a player or has no less standing in that football club if he has the ‘C’ or no ‘C’ next to his name.

“He could be the best leader at that football club, but not the captain. I’m okay with that.”

Funnily enough I agree with Dal Santo. Could be in the minority but I’ve felt unsure for a while about Max being solo captain. Max is a marvel captain or not. Personally, I’d like to see them back Jack in as the solo captain for next year and stop the co-captain model and if they don’t, Max is a ready made replacement. I keep going back to the 2018 Elimination and Semi where Viney was just outstanding after missing a chunk of football. My belief is he can get back to that.

Either way, I feel we are in a good position leadership wise for 2020. Get May, T Mac and Lever out there full time and the support crew looks good.

All l need to do is think back to crunch finals matches against geel and hawt in 2018 where he drove the team forward with huge tackles and pressure with no match practice in the lead up and lower midfield minutes. Injury would be the only reason you would replace jack and even that doesn't make sense but don't trust me read player ratings for yourself. Top 3 mfc players in both crunch games

Jack Viney: 9: Couldn’t have asked for any more from a guy who hadn’t played a game for 62 days. Won 20 disposals and didn’t give an inch with 11 tackles.

JACK VINEY: 8 Like one of those energiser bunnies, just wind him up and watch him seek and destroy.

Imagine what he would be like in finals when fit ! We forget too easily sometimes.

Whoever was Captain in 2019 should be replaced.
Whatever duties they performed failed. That is the reality.

Very nicely posited. Viney is one to get scrambled with the fans (probably because he regularly had membership of the 'long bomb'  society) yet in every other regard, gave his all, always. Some effort to get the ball, dispose of it quickly and effectively, and not take on opponents (singularly or in huddle) with the 'try to tackle me, syndrome' has been exercised. This has in fact improved his game enormously and his contribution to the MFC teammates. He has been plagued by a long-standing and debilitating injury that affected more that his game and attributes - this seems to have also waned; so, a fit Viney should be 'ready to go' for 2020 and if so, we will be the beneficiaries of these changes. He has more than adequate character to continue as a co-captain of the MFC - but Gawn must be the other.

This is reality. Unfortunately those that make these decisions don't live in reality.

Look at the clubs that have ditched the dual captaincy model. They did it for a reason. It doesn't work!

Max for SOLE Captain! thats It!

Viney as sole captain is my preference as it was this time last year. With a preseason for the first time in 3 years we will see him back to his best.

We hung on with Jones a year too many imo.

Love Max and he would be a good skipper also. but Max is the star and already does a lot of media and tension relief/funny stuff.  would hate him to be stifled in any way by the captaincy. needing to be serious/say the right thing. just let him be Max

Reality is you don't know what the inner sanctum or playing group thinks.

Why not ditch Gawn, Jetta and Viney along with Jones who has already stood down.

Any part of the leadership group of 2019 should go by your logic

FFS, it's comical

Not at all.
don’t put words in my mouth

Viney and Jones were Captains in 2019

The Year was a Failure on many Levels.
Both should step down

you need to learn about leadership and team

The entire leadership group takes the blame not just 2

In fact those senior players not part of the leadership group shoulder blame

If someone requires a title to lead they are not a leader

I know enough about Leadership. You can blame the Leadership Group for deficiencies if you wish, mistakes and decisions may well have been wrong.
But the 2 Leaders of the Team must step down after such a shocking year.Leadership has been an on going problem at this Club

I never Rated Jones as a Captain, although he did his very best.
Grimes and Trengove to be given Captaincy was a sad joke and proved the club was a total mess at the time.

Max is a Leader, who gives his all weekly and inspires

use him

A few years ago, i had Sen and Josh mahoney was speaking about Jack, this was before he was captain.

Mahoney said Jack would sit down with all the first year players, such as Clyaton Oliver, from the previous match.

Mahoney said it was all Jacks idea, and that he was told to do it from the coaches, Mahoney said he was blown away, by what Jack was doing. He also said at all the clubs he has been to he had never seen such leader ship skills.

I love big Maxy as well so would be happy with both being captians.

for me it's either jack solo otherwise it's jack and max as half-skips

there's a LOT that goes into being captain these days beyond what we see on field

and there is jack as solo with maxy as vice
