After the disappointment of one solitary game in his debut season, the 197cm tall Harry Petty blossomed as a versatile key position player with the ability to impact at both ends of the field. He has a bright future with the club and will be a valuable option for the Demons in the years to come.

I well remember the usual suspects after his far from flattering debut in a disastrous game, when he was in the company of many teammates who underperformed, writing him off as a spud, dud, list clogger etc.

It would be great were he to make them all choke on their words.

Showed some good signs as a forward.

I have seen him play a lot at Casey, to be honest I cannot remember him playing in the forward line. Never showed he was senior player in the games that I saw.

I was quite surprised how well he played at senior level this year.

Or of the big positives for me.

Was actually playing good footy down back, but then moved forward and showed that he had the tricks and trade to become a genuine key forward. There were times where he marked the ball one touch without any fumbals. I believe he has been told that he will be training with the forwards during the pre season which will give us another good marking option alongside Weideman and McDonald.

Is at a good height at 197cm tall and 92k. I expect him to add more size to his frame so he can get to that 100kg mark and really starting his using frame a bit more.

Absolutely something to work with here.

One of those players that can mark the ball at his highest point as it were. Makes it very difficult to defend against.

Took a very positive step fwd this year. A lot to look fwd to.

MFC website lists him as 89kg. The OP has him at 99kg. I hope the latter is correct.

Thankfully Goodwin's appalling decision to gift Petty a debut in 2018 didn't completely destroy his confidence, and he showed good signs at both ends of the field this year. I think he can become a really good long term player for the club if we look after him properly.

Wasn't really a appalling decision when a player is actually in good strong form in the VFL like Petty was.

But hey, anything to kick [censored] can Goody at all cost..

One of few genuine positives from 2019 imo.  Looks like a real 'prospect' who has come a long way in a short time, and he's still very young for a KPP, with lots of time to develop further.  His apparent versatility is also very appealing, and I wonder where on the ground he'll  ultimately settle.  I'll be fascinated to see if he trains with the backs or forwards in the upcoming preseason.

At one stage he ran 80 metres at full tilt to get back from helping out in defence, just in time to jump across the front of the pack to  take a contested mark at its highest point.   Weid did a similar thing in 2018 but didn't go on with it this year.  Will wait and see.

Frost clearly should have been playing that game rather than a first year key defender. In a two point loss you can easily argue that selection had a major impact in us losing the game.

...and yet, Petty in, Frost out! Go figure....

I like him because I get the vibe that the opposition doesn't.  Has some mongrel in his game.

Agree with this. He has a lot of development to come and has an 'edge' to the way he plays and interacts with the opposition. I want to see him developed as a forward after his games last season.

He has more potential than Omac to me. but its still early days. his improvement is promising.
