WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - LUKE JACKSON

Featured Replies

Trust he is better than the last Jacko we had!!

It sounds likely this is a done deal at 3 now.

Hate the thought of a ruck at 3, and haven't seen anything yet to justify this pick.

Simple request- can someone show me a vid or stat that will get me excited about the dees spending pick 3 on this guy instead of young or green?

A lot of recruiters have been asked who they would take if they had pick 3 and most say Jackson so we are not alone in rating him, if we don’t take him GWS Will with pick 4

I reckon jackson at 10. If we pass.... i reckon he might still be there at 10.

GWS Will take him with 4 if we don’t

Why has there been very little on the go home factor especially to WA.

Because, Hogan aside (with his unique situation), the last time we had someone leave Melbourne to go 'home' to WA was Jeff Farmer and Troy Longmuir ... nearly 20 years ago (2000 and 1999). The last player to go 'home' anywhere was Scott Thompson in 2004.

As a risk it's way over-played, particularly for players leaving Melbourne.

Yeah, would love to see some more vision too.   The highlights package we have all seen is pretty underwhelming

That’s a really interesting video, comparing with Jackson. It shows that they are actually quite different players, especially at that age. Grundy is mobile, but he’s mobile for a ruckman, whilst he mainly relies on his really big body and beating up on midgets. Jackson’s movement for a 200cm guy is just off the charts, even by comparison with one of the AFL’s most mobile rucks.

For years Ive watched the NBA and seen 200cm+ point guards with incredible movement and athleticism and wondered when we will see an athlete like that in the AFL instead of our 200cm+ ruckman who are mostly slow and cumbersome. Buddy is the closest we have had. Jackson could have that potential???? We can all hope.

Baghdad Bob, the Iraqi Minister for (Mid)Information .... the draft is actually tonight!

Hey @Axis of Bob how did we do?  What did you think of our strategy and were you surprised at the draft order.

While you're at it, tatts numbers please!!

Well he won't.

I suspect after we select Jackson we will release some new footage of him that will change a lot of people’s opinion about us picking him.

The tatts numbers were 3, 10, 28 and 97. I went to claim my prize, but the newsagent said that the numbers changed after trades and academy bidding.

I'm not very good at future predictions ... and it turns out I'm just as bad at making predictions about what is going to happen in the past.

They might have said this but most are also not linked or spoken of as picking him up in the top 5 outside of GWS

Gold Coast aren’t taking him obviously.

But reports had us, Adelaide, GWS and Freo all very keen. That’s picks 3, 4, 6, 7. And Sydney keep things close.

He’s not a unanimous choice at 3 but I don’t see clubs kicking the door down for any of the other top 7 guys. Ash seems popular, but my guess is clubs would be split between those 2 and Young, Flanders and Stephens.

This draft period has been great, with pick trading, intrigue, bidding, and being linked with unconventional players whose selection will annoy large parts of the Demonland population.

But there's only one thing that I'm disappointed about, and that's Gold Coast getting pick 2 instead of us .....

.... because this place would have been like the apocalypse if we had have selected Jackson and passed on Anderson!

I only heard this after it was pretty much locked in we would take him. Easy to say you would take him when it’s not an option.

Agree. More the Vic boys that get drafted to Interstate teams that want to come home.

Jeeezzzzz I hope he is really, really, really Good or he and Taylor going to cop it on here...............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And we havent had the greatest success with picking talls in the first round, Lucas Cook anyone?

Jack Watts????  Weideman????? Jury still out on him.

Very risky i would say.

Out of interest where did Jackson play for Australia? Was he point guard?

So your theory is to not draft talls in the first round... or at all?

I assume it's purely hypothetical, but I wonder what we would do in the unlikely event that the Gold Coast doesn't select as expected for picks 1 and 2? Would we still stick with Jackson?

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
