Yeah. Me too. As a West Torrens supporter Steven Stretch was said to be the least likely to succeed of a talented bunch of SA boys to move to the VFL. I took an immediate interest in him and was wrap to get Billy. Had high hopes but not to be. Good luck to the young fellow for the future and his whole family.

If the Suns’ recruiters are doing their job they will be talking to one or both of Trengove and Stretch.

There’s always one mung bean who posts something like this. Stretch played 47 AFL games, so it can’t have been that obvious he wasn’t going to make it.

He also played the majority of those 47 under Paul Roos, and seeing as you know more than him, no doubt you’re in hot demand as an AFL coach. Oh, you’re not?

I don’t expect anyone to shed a tear over a player who has fallen short of the grade being delisted, but I don’t think it’s a big ask to show some respect, or if you really can’t do that, STFU.

Agreed Nasher, irrespective of opinions about a players abilities and worth, every departing player deserves respect, other than those who betray the trust of others or behave in a despicable manner.

From all accounts, Stretch was a model team mate and trained in an impeccable manner.  In fairness, unlike others who have been regularly picked in the senior team, Billy was not given any continuity in matches played and was always playing for his place. Very difficult to build confidence in his situation.

Personally, I don't think he was up to it as he was definitely on the short side and did not have much lateral movement, but he was not hopeless. On a line ball with many others.

A favourite of Nigel and the inner city latte sipping, pinot grigio loving vegans with an interest in the creative arts who threaten the free world and would upturn all the old traditions and discipline. The delisting of these 2 boys seems to suggest we will take 1-2 DFA's and 4-5 in the drafts.

I think supporters forget that when players are drafted they are most often still teenagers with the potential to grow. If Stretch had grown a few more centimetres he might have been more successful. Instead, he always seemed undersized and for that reason not strong enough to match it with bigger players. Both Stretch and JKH deserve credit for what they've achieved. I hope that they succeed with whatever they do next, whether it's continuing as AFL footballers or not.  

Billy Stretch will be playing for Glenelg in the SANFL next year. 

 

I really do hope Stretch can find his way back to AFL level. 

Anyone know if Jay is signed up anywhere? Wouldn't mind picking up the phone to him and asking the question on our local club if he hasn't made a decision lol.

JKH signed with a club in the amateurs.

JKH started with a bang. Dominated a scratch match in preseason and then put together a handy first year. For whatever reason, he never went on with it and actually declined if anything.

Stretch was always a good squad member, but had no attributes that really made it look he would ever lock down a role.

Anyway, best of luck to the both of them.

Uni Blues I believe.

Agree with both delistings, however both can consider themselves a littler unlucky considering Josh Wagner received an extension.

Could have easily re-signed one of the two and delisted Wagner.

Not specifically about JKH, but I am amazed at how some amateur clubs are managing to pick up players straight out of the AFL who are prepared to play for nothing while some very ordinary players by comparison can pick up good money playing in suburban competitions.

There is a debate going on now in amo ranks about this very thing WJ. Seems things are not as amateur as some people believe. They have a weighting  system that supposedly stops the bigger clubs getting bigger but does not seem to be working.
