Papley's not that special!  I think people are vastly over rating him.

I disagree. He's hard as nails, fast, tackles, never fumbles, good kick inside 50, and kick goals. Plus he's under 24. A poor mans brent harvey for mine.

I'd rather Martin than Papley.

But the idea of going to the draft with 3 + 8 gets me thoroughly aroused...

Crab stick even? (An aside but who eats crab sticks, they are disgusting but my wife could eat 10 in a sitting if I didn’t shame her so badly (not that there is anything wrong in publicly shaming my wife for her food choices)).

We're in the best position possible going into last day of trade period.

Two extremely valuable picks are on the table if the right offer pops up.

We'll be sitting back, cross-legged with cigar in mouth knowing that if nothing comes up, we go to the draft with two top 10 picks a year after making a prelim.

Added to that is the fact that we've addressed a problem area with the additions of Langdon and to a lesser extent Tomlinson. No longer will we have to play inside midfielders on a wing.

And this is all without mentioning the fact that we have a pre-season with Burgess coming up. One of the most highly respected fitness coaches around.

I'm putting a cheeky $20 on us for top 4 next year.

Dees.

This kind of optimism had no place in demonland. Are you a new supporter? ?

Picked up Tomlinson and Langdon to fix our wing issues. Pick Green at 3 in the draft, force GWS to match bid which will leave us able to get 2 of Young, Ash, Sarong, Stevens or Kemp.

Only top 4? Where's your faith? Chuck a gremlin on us for the flag.

What about this from left field.

Offer Swans 8 for Papley and Tom McCartin.

That gets Daniher done. 5 & 8.

We then do 3 to GWS and get 6 and someone like Caldwell.

GWS get Green and whoever they want at 3 .

We fix small forward problem with Papley, key forward problem with McCartin and add pace/skill with Caldwell plus another good player with 6.

Well I can dream can't I?

Only pick Green with 3 if he's worth pick 3. They may let him pass, with the knowledge that the rank of available draftees moves up a spot.

However, if they do match a bid at 3 they'll use up pick 6, which means 8 moves up a spot.

Papleys asking price is too much for our salary cap.

Someone has definately hacked Steve's account BM.

I note the Hawks have traded in 3 former number 1 draft picks in the last 3 years, all of whom have allegedly been injured and all have come extremely cheaply.

Herald Sun reporter Jon Ralph told Fox Footy’s Trading Day that list managers had flagged to “watch this space in the next 24 hours” regarding Melbourne.

Very left field Bombshell;

But I hear a whisper of secret dealings in the background.

Pick 3 & 2020 2nd round pick (Hawks) to GWS for Pick 6 and Whitfield (gives GWS salary cap space).

Angus Brayshaw (allows us to help pay for Whitfield & Papley) to Freo for Pick 10.

Pick 8 to Sydney for Papley.

OUT - Pick 3, Brayshaw and 2020 2nd rounder.

IN - Picks 6, 10, Whitfield & Papley.

Demons serious 2020 Premiership contender!

No way!

Papley has Martin covered.

Sydney love McCartin and have him pegged either up forward or down back for the next decade. Will take a lot more than pick 8 for Papley and him.

If this was even a remote possibility, which it’s not, I’d go help Angus pack.

Yeah well we can't trade any other 2020 picks now we've traded our 1st rounder so you stumbled at the first hurdle.  More detention for you.

Dreaming!

Anything is possible! But yes I am probably dreaming. ?

Whitfield had a very poor Grand Final playing wounded. He declared himself only 50-60% fit after the game. Quite selfish I think!

If I were GWS I would trade him. There going to have a Pick 3 & Tom Green (Top 5 rates) come in this year!

Whitfield allows the Dees to mix up the wing and midfield positions. And we get that elite kick we are after...

Hope we offer Pick 3 for a Papley and 9. Help Sydney get Daniher.

Can we only trade one 2020 Pick?

If you trade your future first rounder you have to retain picks in the other rounds (we currently hold Hawks 2020 2nd round).

You can trade any or all of future 2nd round on, as long as you retain a 1st round.

This is to stop desperate clubs selling the future farm.

All I can say is, we better not be planning a big name trade, we better have it sorted ALREADY. If we don't use picks 3 and/or 8, or pick 8 in some combo to secure a needed gun, that has to be the stupidest trade of all time.  One first rounder for a first, second and third rounder. FFS.

I reckon it would be awesome for us to trade pick 3 for a second round pick and proclaim it is a sign that we will take risks and resort to unconventional means to improve.

Sydney don't have 9.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
