good to get another top 10 pick this year but again unless there is some  not yet revealed further strategy we  have been too generous in what we have given back

It was the sweetener to get North to bite.

Imagine if we had given them 22.

It will work out if we get two good players. Fingers crossed.

Why do we have no depth?

Because for years we’ve given up 2nd round picks:

- Vince

- Hibberd

- Melksham

- Oliver/Weid trade ups

- Frost

Our drafts have been all top picks and 3rd round or later from 2012-2016.

The last 2 years we’ve worked our way back in to the 2nd round but without first round picks.

Apart from the fact that the first round pick could go belly up we’ve given up yet another 2nd round pick and the chance of building quality depth in the list.

Wait you'd rather a punt to draft a depth player at 26 than a punt to draft a best 22 player at 8?

So correct me if I am wrong, but does that mean we currently only have 2 picks in the draft?

Must make a minimum of 3 draft selections. As it stands our 3rd pick will be up near or even over 100.

That would be fine if we were upgrading a rookie with that 3rd pick, but doubt we'd be looking to draft a youngster that late? Further trades to happen bringing our 3rd pick back into an earlier round?

What!

You weren’t bouncing off the ceiling when we beat GC by a point?

Not quite BBP given who we were playing!

The FD is backing itself for the next 2 drafts. All or nothing

Get it right. Jobs are on the line right now

3 and 8 are pretty good picks

I'm probably wrong about this, but maybe Kyle Dunkley counts as one of our draft selections for this year? Otherwise, we may have already agreed to upgrade a rookie?

All of these concerns might be moot in 24 hours time anyway..

So they way I see it, we win the flag in 2020 and with all the academy and father sons next year we are trading pick 26 in 2020, 26 and 50 this year for pick 8.

Bloody good deal ;)

Great deal for us!  I hope we take 3 and 8 to the draft.  Our best players are 21-25, we need an injection of youth.

Add langdon, Tomlinson and 2 gun quick kids and we will look so different next year.

next year's draft is weak and also a lot of academy players.  We are backing ourselves to be giving Roos pick 12 or higher.

LOVE IT!

Would you trade them for Daniher or Papley

I’d rather have both, which we would probably have if we just patiently waited a year. Then our list is stronger.

Stronger list = stronger training on the track and in the gym, competition for spots that breeds a culture of competitiveness, not risking injured players etc etc.

I like it.

If recruiters are spooked by Brodie Kemp's knee injury and he's still there at pick 8, this'll be a huge win.  Kemp then takes next year to recover and hit's 2021 as a new top 5 recruit.

Failing that - Caleb Serong.

Pick 3 on Young and we'll be well set.

we will get a pick (4th round) presumably in the Stretch trade and as I understand it the picks never run out... you just keep going through the order until al the clubs say "no more"

Hadn't thought of that. Possibly, need to look for some AFL draft rules.

If it were a rookie, which one? It may be a last resort.

Bold move from the club, as others have said earlier.

The 2020 draft has academy and F/S selections everywhere, so I think the club saw an opportunity to do something this year that we wouldn't be able to next year.  I can't fault them on that and, as Mahoney said, it gives us flexibility to either get more picks or to use one to trade for an A grade player.

I know some put lots of credence in the points system, but I don't.  I think for what we need to do and what we might want to do it's a good trade for us.

we don't have until 2021 39. If that is the strategy, then Goodwin will be chopped

Most likely explanation is trade for Yokozuna's forward IMO.

We could do the pick split with GWS - 3 for 6 and 2020 1st and be back in next year's 1st round.

Gunston?

Papley yes, Daniher no.

But if I’m being honest I don’t think both player warrant the same value as 2 top 10 picks.

Agreed, they're going all in

they might throw up some hail marys to try and land some guns from other clubs, if not i'd be grabbing Young and then one of Flanders or Ash at 8

Draftees aren't going to be a quick fix to anyones problems.

Langdon, Tomlinson and better luck with injuries improves us immensely for 2020.

This is better for the club.
