Sparrow, Jordan and Nietschke

I like Jordon good kick from what I've seen, needs to get the ball a bit more often but a good prospect considering his age. Neitschke done his knee so I've seen none of him. Sparrow is the interesting one, well built pretty quick something to work with there.

Agree, I was on the same flight as Brisbane last year. Was amazed how puny Lewis Taylor was. The there was Stefan the Giant

being sarcastic? one was pick 27, the other was 33 - hardly high end picks

not many from outside the top 10 of the 2018 draft have really cemented their roles at clubs as yet

yeah, but it's relative - 2018 is looking pretty light on talent-wise some two years on

outside the majority of the top 10 - which we traded out of to land may, kk, and sparrow - and a handful of players beyond that, it's hardly a super impressive crop

Given Jordon hasn't played a game yet and Sparrow has only played seven then writing both off is premature speculation.

Now @Elegtif you were to suggest Baker (23 in May) won't make it then I would agree with you!

Bytel and Ross are better players. You are right with one thing it seems to be an ordinary draft that one.

Yesterday was a blow for our depth. A very disappointing day for the club and these three did nothing to help their cause for a game (albeit one of them has an ACL)

Jordon was fumbly and had 0 composure. Not only that he gave away 3 stupid free kicks from being careless.

I'm still yet to work out what strength Sparrow brings to our side. I remember in his draft year there were comparisons to Patrick Dangerfield and yet you could have the complete opposite to that. He is a one paced plodder who like majority of our inside mids, can only play in one position only. He's useless anywhere else.

The 2018 draft year isn't looking so great.

the slowness of ball movement and the play of Jordan and Sparrow were let downs for me yesterday, that said to say they wont make it is a little bold.  They played against a premiership midfield yesterday and im not sure there is a better midfield.  Yesterday was a lesson for those boys so hopefully they took notes and come back better for it

Jordon and Sparrow are both bog average players without a single AFL standard trait between them. Keep one as deep depth, the other can go at year end.

Who knows whether Nietschke can play or not, but he was a speculative, left field selection who has not played a full game at any level in three years in the club. He shouldn't have been on the list this year.

There are 15 players drafted after Sparrow who have 10+ games to their name - any one of these would have been an improvement on what we have.

Sparrow and Jordon will always struggle because they will always be played out of position.  There is no room for them in a team with Trac, Oliver, Brayshaw, harmes, Viney...

discounting the academy picks, i highlighted who i woulda taken instead, notice a distinct lack of inside bullocking types. obvioulsy mosquito showed a fair bit as has jarrod cameron and the two rucks briggs and williams look decent too but don't fit a need for us

Sparrow’s a very strong kid with some explosive attributes. He ripped the ball free to set up one goal, and shrugged off a tackler at another stage. He’s also taken a number of very decent marks in his career. He was a half back at state level, that’s the next step to try him if he doesn’t start winning more ball. But he did his job when he played last year so I wouldn’t give up on him just yet. 
 

Jordon’s just 20 and barely played last year. Bernie Vince wasn’t even drafted until he was 20 and couldn’t get a regular game until 22. He won’t be the first player to come unstuck on the Marvel car park either. I do think he’s a bit vanilla but if he’s the best runner of our mids and can lay solid tackles there’s a base to work with. If all the buzz about his summer is just from time trials I’d be a little surprised and disappointed.

You'd expect a 20 year old to show some sort of afl attributes,  I see nothing with him unfortunately

I saw clean enough skills and a good work rate against Richmond. Obviously struggled with the step up in intensity and role against the Dogs but 2 games is a very small sample size. He had 12 uncontested possessions, our third most so he was working to find the ball even if he couldn't win it at the contest and he laid one big tackle late inside 50 to create a goal that was commendable. Only small stuff but not every player has to be have all the tricks.
