Patton may not be such a bargain after three knee recos.  I'd have been reluctant to trade for him.

Imagine this forum if we did draft him and he did his knee again?

I agree.

I'm not too fussed about him, is 26 and will be almost 27 start of next season and has kicked over 40 goals once in his career.

He could be a solid player, but I have doubts over his durability.

You do realise that even if Patton only plays 10 games, that is still more than 80% of 4th round picks ever will.

Yes I understand that salary cap implications, but that is such a low risk trade for Hawthorn. Patton is much more likely to be a decent player for them than someone they pick in next year's 4th round.

I really am dumbfounded by this trade from GWS' perspective, unless he is on MASSIVE coin and they needed the cap relief desperately.

Are we gambling on Joel Smith having an injury free year to supplement our key forward stocks?

He did kick 6 goals in the JLT and looked quite good.

I hope we play Joel at FF with Fritsch.

Especially since GWS said they weren’t going to give him up cheaply like they did with old $culldog. I don’t know how the Hawks do it, is their negotiator a Jedi or something!?

The Hawks are taking on A grade talent which are paid like A grade talent with D grade output.

GWS needed Scully and Patton off their books so they can retain they players which aren't injured and know will play their best.. whitfield, cameron, Coniglio etc

Even though Scully came back and played most of this year he hardly had much impact. Patton I dare say will be much the same

It's this.

Salary dumping.

He's fourth in line in their forward line (Cameron and Himmelberg are better than him, Finalyson is arguably as good), on a big salary and with dodgy knees. They want his salary off the books to help keep the rest of their stars.

I'll be frustrated if Patton turns into a star for Hawthorn, but I understand what GWS is doing.

Yoko: the final countdown....

Yoko has gone very quite, I don't think there is any deal for a Victorian key forward getting done in 10 hours which the media hasn't sniffed out yet....

Perhaps it’s happening and @Yokozunais staying silent until it’s announced!

No idea if it is going ahead or not, but I am surprised nothing has been said in the media (which is one of a few things, the suggested target and/or club shut it down so quickly it was not talked about enough to spark media interest OR we run a tight ship and nobody is speaking OR it was never on the cards) and I would unfortunately have to say the target I was told about is highly unlikely now, given the time left in the trade period.

I am of course hoping it is the point that nobody is speaking and we run a tight ship! Doubtful though.

Some of the other trade and contract signing news has also most likely hurt our chance of getting said player now!

But, let’s not give up hope of something happening before the deadline, whether it be this player or someone else.

Honestly, even if nothing happens. This rumour has made this thread good fun in a really slow trade week

So it looks like we are chasing Daniher.

Can't see why chasing a bloke who hasn't played in two years benefits anyone other than the rehab group which has included May & Lever far too much since we recruited them

That just seems impossible and it would suggest that Daniher was lying about going to Sydney to retain some privacy and playing with another one of his father's clubs, but rather just wanted to leave the Bombers at all costs.

Not sure if this is in regards to my posts, but I can categorically deny that Daniher is the person I was talking about.

I do not want Daniher and wouldn’t be excited to have him, unless we knew he was fit and able to play full seasons, and I doubt that at this age.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
