Exactly. I'm also sure he could convince our players to go on the camp.ย

In what role? We've just appointed a "senior" assistant coach. Is going back to a line coach position a demotion?

He could organise our camp and stare down our players if they don't come back fit enough.ย

only if he incorporates the power stance into every round and a spiced up version for finals (if we ever make them again)

What about Ross Lyon instead??ย

A no from me.

Alan Richardson, whilst not getting the wins on the board, never seemed to have 'lost' the players.ย  Pyke on the other hand, whilst at the helm of a very strong list, oversaw a tumultuous reign at the crows, where year after year we heard tales of player discontent.ย

Too many chefsย spoil the broth, is that an appropriate answer for this thought bubble!ย

Was he the mastermind behind that?

no, the faux psychology blokes they employed to do the camp.

I think Don needs a bit of a rest to collect himself before he jumps back into AFL. We talk about a blown season, they blew up a genuine deep into September opportunity for a couple of seasons.ย

AFL coaching is a tough and thankless caper.ย  You have to get everything right to play in a way that you are able to make and win finals, rely on list management to get the right talent and player development to develop it, have to move personnel around the ground due to injury and form and also have to deal with what the opposition throws up week in week out. Add to this dealing with player welfare, keeping everyone together in a high pressure and ever changing environment and dealing with the public and media scrutiny that comes with a poor loss or player indiscretion. Good luck to Don Pyke, it was a remarkable effort to make a GF after stepping into the role after the loss of Phil Walsh.ย

Dear Mr Chook....

Here is the other classicย stare down from another prelim from 2017.

Wind the clock forward almost exactly two years to the day and one of these teams is about to play off in another prelim under the same coach and mostly made up of the same players.

The other has since lost it's coach, is presently going through a full external review having missed finals and has also seen it's Captainย relinquishย his title and there's likely to be an exodus of disgruntledย players looking to join other clubsย having been ย impacted by a toxic club environment instituted and ticked off on by a board thatย remains relatively unchanged.

Board pre Camp 2017:

Rob Chapman (Chairman), Jim Hazel (Deputy Chairman), Bob Foord, Mark Ricciuto, Rod Jameson, Linda Fellows, Richard Fennell, Kate Ellis and Jim McDowell.

Latest Board members:

Rob Chapman (Chairman), Jim Hazel (Deputy Chairman), Jim McDowell, Linda Fellows, Kate Ellis, Richard Fennell, Mark Ricciuto, Rod Jameson and Kym Ryder.

I'll give you one guess as to which club the latter is...

Sad really sad. like the young toughย who has got away with scaring little kids with his stare until he meets someone who is not intimidated by it. Pathetic The contempt on Scotts face is priceless.

Too true and that is totally underplayed. Seeing the comments made by Danny Frawley relating to the Dons drugs episode and how it affected him as the president of the coaches association does highlight that. Seeing Brendan Bolton from Hawks coaching whole Clarkson was sick to the of his time at the Blues, it really and obvs our own Mark Neeld it is a tough gig.

It's a bit of a stretch to say the players hate him. Sure they have underperformed and I'm sure he's not universally loved by all 42 players but I doubt many of them hate him.ย

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
