It was a very nice debut. But let’s face it. It’s far easier to kick goals in the dogs forward line. From memory reports were dogs and port would have taken Kozzy if we didn’t and had him ranked over Weightman. Personally I think Kozzy has more upside with his pace and manic pressure as well as a more physical presence. may end up more a Jamie Elliot type which will be a very good pick. Fingers cross Kozzy becomes Cyril Rioli!

Cyril v Elliot?

I know who I'd be taking.....

Actually I meant Weightman may end up more of a Jamie Elliott. Probably came across wrong in my post.

I think I made that read Kozzy might end up like Jamie Elliott. Meant Weightman.

Didn't like the Selwood style lean-to-the-side-and-drop-his-head into op shoulder for a 'high' free.  Umpire fell for it.

Was just making sure he was fulfilling Toby McLean's Role.

Loved what Weightman did last night . . . and it shows that many posters on 'Land were spot on in November last year. Having said that, I'm convinced we got it right with our early picks in 2019 . . . although time will obviously be the better judge of that.

Small marking forward? 0 tackles, 0 goal assists.

Bruce is now a comical announcer.  He's truly hopeless.  His fawning for Weightman was on full display.

It was a good debut, however, they overlooked his poor kicking - other than his great first goal.  Small forwards can vary greatly and Pickett is more the type we need.

Just on McAvaney.  Try listening to him commentate and count the number of times he asks a question after he makes a statement.  You won't believe how often it happens and nor will you be able to correctly remember the final tally.

Here's a taste of what I'm talking about:

He's truly the pits and you'll never listen to his commentary the same way again.

And he does it EVERY single game.

6 tackles and 3 score involvements vs 0 tackles and running around packs waiting for a lolly?  Kozzie>>>>weightman.  That haircut could only get a run in the Western suburbs

Someone on Demonland pointed this out a few years ago and ever since then I can't stop hearing it.

Drives me bonkers!!

As an aside, I actually don't mind BT so long as there's no "Lloooyd" playing. The pronunciation is insufferable.

Does he?

No. Because he is a completely different player to Weightman.

When I spent time with Spargo at the bushies, he played his best footballer as a midfielder. He was voted best player in the under 16s championships when he was playing as a full time mid then resting up forward.

DD what's your thoughts on Spargo playing a similar role to Caleb Daniel.

Spargo made some very good decisions with ball in hand during 2018

He should have been retired 5 years ago, He's a festering joke. No idea about the game. And we have no interest in listening to him prattle on about carp.

Well commentated Dennis, I mean WTF even is that?

Thanks Duck, Lingy. He's a fawning sychophant.

I can't stand Bruce. BT is good value, love his roaming BT segment, and even funnier that he did it at Rick Levers wedding.

With BT, only one player has a first name “Orazio Fantasia!”  Everyone else is a surname or a nickname “The Bont!”  Just call the game you bag of [censored].

“Unctuous” is a nice description of his style. Your correct, he really should have retired years ago!

But back to young Weightman:  another product of the Hailebury College football factory! They churn ‘em out down there!

Edited by Dee Dee

in fairness to bruce he's still a miles better play by play caller than bt, daaaaaaaaaarce, haaaaaaaaaaaame, or braaaaaaaayshaw

bt's ability to make every name sound like it's got about 1000 vowels in it drives me up the wall

He is great, don’t you agree?

Already kicked in one game as many goals as Pickett has for the season. I'll take the guy who kicks goals thanks.

And he hasn't got close to having the impact on a game that Pickett has in terms of his team play.

I'll take the whole package, thanks.

Err did you miss Pickett's debut game where he kicked 2.2?

Weightman kicked two last night as well.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #42 Aidan Johnson

The VFL premiership player was recruited from Werribee to alleviate Melbourne’s forward line woes and give a chop out in the ruck, but he managed only five senior matches in his first season at the club. At times, he was a dominant force at VFL level.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #44 Luker Kentfield

An exciting young key forward, Kentfield was selected in the 2024 mid-season draft but has yet to make his AFL debut. He was sidelined by a severe bout of pneumonia over the summer, which consequently limited his pre-season. Upon his return a month into the season, he commenced in defence but ultimately impressed with his progress at Casey, particularly in the latter part of the season as a strong marking goal kicking forward.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.
