The Vic Country games are on AFL.com.au if you want to watch them

I just watched the VIC Country Vs WA game as I thought it would be a good one to watch as I knew it was a close finish.

I was wrong. Weightman had a quiet game. WA pressure meant that VC sucked in the first half which was annoying as all the players I wanted to watch were all playing for VC.

Weightman Highlights:

Q1. A great tackle at the start of the match. This was nearly the only highlight for VC in the first half. WA dominated with pressure and VC never really got going.

Q2. Was involved in a few passages which are barely worth a mention. It was a bad first half to be a small forward as the ball didn't come down that way often.

Q3. A great quarter. Looked lively, kicked a goal and was ferocious with some of his tackles.

Q4. Was not involved in anything worth talking about. Virtually unsighted

Summary: Earlier in the thread I said that his highlights from the Stingrays didn't show any small forward talent. I was wrong. This boy can play the small forward role, just not the way I thought he would. He is lively, always on the move, positions himself well and has amazing pressure to lock it in the forward 50. He isn't the mercurial goal sneak that I expected but he does have talent. I will need to watch the other VC games as this one didn't show much.

I have no idea why I am bothering to spend so much time researching a kid I don't think we should take, but here I am... I have even created a video of the highlights mentioned above for you guys to watch. I realised early on that there wouldn't be any sound but didn't realise that it would have that watermark in the middle of the screen until it was finished. Just so you know the programme I used was [censored] and I would not recommend it to anyone. Started to crash once the file got too big which was concerning for a 3min video.

I watched the Vic Country vs SA game & he kicked 2 in the first quarter, another in the second and another in the second half. He is definitely a goal kicker, he only needs one opportunity and he’ll pretty much kick a goal.

He looks like one of those really annoying little [censored] who opposition fans despise as theyre so irritating  but  can tear teams apart  ...  ie.  Milne, Toby Greene

I'd love him at the Dees....  pick 8 might be pushing it  however

Yeah he is one of those players. He likes getting in the face of the opposition ?

Pick 15 yes, pick 8, no

If we are so hellbent on Weightman then let us hope we can split pick 8 into a pick 15 and a second rounder with someone. But really let’s just pick best available with pick 8 and forget so called needs. We have heaps of needs, but we have a half dozen so called small forward types on our list and there are a few recently delisted that we could work on. Meanwhile our key position forward stocks are as thin as!

I think this is the best option if Weightman is the target.  Second rounder on Picket.  Having these two gives us two very decent small crumbers / finish / extra pressure to lock ball in and convert more often up forward which was badly missing in 2019.

Out of the half dozen medium & stalls at Casey i would be surprised if two make it through into regular 22 so another two who I believe will make it are a must imv.  Need to learn from the Tigers here.  Then we need a genuine KF to assist T-Mac for 2021 and beyond.

I like Weightman, but not at pick 8. There are reports the dogs will take him at 13, so if we want him, it has to be before then. My guess is if we split the pick with Freo, we'll take him at 10. If we don't split it we'll take him at 8 and miss out on Kemp, Serong or other top pick ?

Combining different sources here, but Weightman is very much on our radar pending a pick split with Freo.

Any chance we would split with port if we are after Weightman? Good chance he’d still be there at 12.

Was looking at our possible picks from other threads and I’m thinking Weightman makes sense. Looks like we are going for Jackson at 3 and although he may play forward next year he’s really one for the future. So might make sense to pick one or two that will have a impact next year. Which would put Kemp in doubt and perhaps swing things towards Weightman who we have been reported as been very keen on for a while.

Not sure, but I would guess it's possible. I've just heard Freo is a growing possibility so that's why I mentioned that scenario.

Jackson still seems possible, but the club rates Green VERY highly so every chance we call his name out and then we see if GWS match or if they go for needs and pluck Jackson.

Appears you were on the money with the call on Freo.

The Green option is my favoured play but i am still not convinced on Jackson being worthy of a top 3 pick.  Has to be one of Ash and Young (or a bid on Henry...on a needs basis and to take another pick in the top 10 off Freo ... not saying he is top 5).

I would also seriously consider Schoenburg with pick 10 ahead of Weightman.  Yes he is that good and imv the best 'balanced' mid in the draft with excellent execution/finishing skills (outside of the Hawks bound McGuiness).  Probably not a top 10 candidate but then many argue Weightman isn't either.

Just out of curiosity and this is probably one of the dumbest draft questions ever but here goes...

Say we bid on Green with 3.  GWS counters and we are then left to decide....are we then able to also bid on Henry with the same pick?  I assume you can only bid once with each pick.

I'll take your word for on it the draftees mate, I'm far from an expert on that stuff, especially this year.

Still a chance we do another pick deal, potentially with Geelong. We're pushing for it, but not sure how keen the Cats are, so that may change the scenario yet again.

I'm pretty sure you could bid 'twice' like that, would make sense. The intrigue will surround whether GWS match or not as they would find Jackson very appealing and the word I've heard is that MFC rate Green as the best player in the draft. Should we bid on Green it really is because we want him, not just to stop GWS' advantage.

Haven't heard us linked to Henry anywhere apart from a few hypothetical media articles, so we might not be considering him, or of course I just haven't heard things, which is very possibly obviously. Green and Weightman are the ones I think we really want, but it will be about doing the deal to have the right weighted picks and then hoping no one else jumps in first.

Sorry Cheesy Often (OFTEN) flies for marks in or at the back of s pack making about 6 players after the same ball.

We know the result is an opponent takes it and creates a goal etc.

Nev does not make a lot of mistakes and is good overall but needs to resist flying unnecessarily on the backline and let taller players take this role.

He wil then be the AA player we love picking up some crumbs and clearing for handballing etc to clear.

So my suggestion yesterday that we might really want Green and we can get him, if GWS don’t match, could still happen.

That's music to my ears LN.  I'd be more than happy to nab Green with the bid and see Jackson head to GWS.  Both clubs win.  Rate him as the 2nd best inside mid behind Rowell and tbh he aint that far behind imv.

Weightman possibly the next rung in terms of smallish forwards outside of Henry.  His attack on the ball and defensive pressure at a very high level for his age, maybe the difference between him and those listed below that sees him touted / rated a bit earlier by some of the scribes.

At the next level It's a bit of a toss up between Pickett, Willams and Taylor.  Cahill chomping at their heals.  Wouldn't be dissapointed at landing Taylor or Pickett with 28 but of course both could be gone before that.

Given the discount (20%) GWS get on Green, and the fact they can (trade out & back) and pay for Green with later pick points and use their trade back picks to pick another gem or two from this draft, for them to forgo the discount and pick trading stuff to let Green go to us and take Jackson would require they rate Jackson as not just better than Green, but better than Green plus players they get trading pick 4 out and then back...

Didn’t they pretty much close the loophole on trading out and back? Not sure they have enough remaining, or high enough, picks to do multiple trades with multiple clubs either.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
