Agree, however doubt he will. He wouldn’t even sign for 260K. Then comes out to the media to talk about how he considered leaving the Dees...

Where did he say that oli?

It all depends on who you consider to be a Club Champion.

Ron Barassi, Frank “Bluey” Adams and Robert Flower i consider to be Club Champions

Jones is nowhere near that level, loyal and well paid, yes

Crazy idea but let's wait to see who is captain/co captain next year?

I doubt Jones will be one, but I think it's a bit rank to put him in the same subject line as Tex.

Tex is one of the biggest sooks going around, look what he said about Lever, made sure he wasn't invited to the B&F, slagged him off for not wanting "success". Yuck.

Now he cracks the sads and is a shining light? More yuck.

Tex is a [censored].

indirectly saying it but saying his ‘weighing it up’ basically implies he was considering walking.

Ha!  That’s a stretch.

"Personally, I weighed up a lot, and eventually found some perspective," Jones told the Melbourne website.

If he wasn’t weighing up staying then wtf was he weighing up? This report is in reference e to him signing.

I see no reason to rush things, for crying out loud the season only finished a week ago for us. Let the players settle on their breaks, I'm sure the conversation has been had and if it hasn't than it should be had at the next opportunity but there is no reason to force it now. It would only pile on more unwanted attention onto the club.

I'd prefer they do it once the boys are back from their break, I also agree with dazzle that Viney should also relinquish the captaincy and move into a VC role behind Gawn.

YEAH!   Good on ya...................   Nathan Jones a loyal and champion person.

A stalwart of our great club, push him over the edge with the knives in his back. Disappointing!                                                                        For the supporters who want him to step down, he doesn't need you to tell him when his time is up.

He is a champion  and loyal person and he will make his decision when the time comes.

Wow,  supporters can say what they wish to happen, as long as it is respectful. There is no disrespect in saying Jones should step down.  We live in a democracy

Talk about yesterday’s hero. Sheesh. He kicks what we thought was the sealer early in the last qtr in the final against the cats last year and was one of our most loved.

Jones was never a real A grader but we depended on him heavily in the worst years I’ve ever had as a supporter and one of the truly dark eras of this club. He was no flower but he was a real heart and soul player and one of the very few that was widely respected in and out of the club.

Yes he needs to step down or be stepped down from the captaincy.(as I think viney does as well) but he deserves our full respect.

And he gets it from the 90% of the fan base that are sane, normal people.  He can ignore the other 10%.

Lyon is past champion, loyal and has great care for the club regardless of past involvements, he gets [censored] on at every chance by most supporters..

I hoe this does not happen to Jonesy, i have my frustrations with him, but i love players that remain loyal through tough times.

Jesus there have been some rippers on Nathan Jones lately, just a few point out a couple:

- Shouldn't be on a family holidays, instead at home curled up watching every minute of every finals.

- Deserves to take a pay cut because he is selfish

- Needs to be delisted

- Needs to retire

-  Shouldn't be captain of the club because he doesn't even care..

Some people on here are absolute floggs, with know idea on what this man has given our club and what he stands for.

Somewhat bemusing to read threads like this. Strikes me the same bias always floats to the top. Not only a bias but an inability it would seem to be able to distinguish between two qualities. Two that many seem either incapable or determined not to acknowledge as independent.

Club Stalwart

Club Captain

Jones is without doubt a genuine stalwart of the club. If he is successful in the course of our club being successful then that is to be lauded.

The ability to lead need not be dependent upon nor even connected to the ability to be reviewed as a player

It's entirely reasonable to question his function as a captain whilst appreciating ( or not ) his contributions.

Lyon is not in the class of Barassi Adams or Flower. One rung down

better player than Jones

Wasnt really comparing him to those players more so about the levels of criticism he gets, bit like Jonesy gets, which i find crazy, but thats just me.

What about Norm Smith, WYL?  How do rate him in terms of champions of the club?  Have you been talking to him lately about the curse?  Did you encourage him to get himself over to Goodwin's house to force him to watch finals tapes from the last 20 years?

Please tell.  The fate of the current playing group depends on your feedback!

To me Jones has always slipped under the radar, not always his fault.

To me he has been an average to good player, but because the MFC was so bad for so long (we still haven’t left this phase behind) Jones is given the word Champion.

I am very suprised he has been signed for another year, considering the year we have just had.

Others feel differently

Yeah yeah old man, quality comeback.

You still didn't answer the question, though.  Did you converse with Norm and what did he say?

Has he relinquished it yet?

Well it's been 24 hours since Tex stood down..  so Jonesy is doing himself no favours here.

What round was it when you started to panic?

Or were you as cool as a cucumber all the way through.

As Saty reminds us, its just a game, and maybe he's right.

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
