If Jones cares about the club he'd step down and concentrate on his game. Not sure he will - he might need a tap on the shoulder. He can't be captain in 2020.

Agree, however doubt he will. He wouldn’t even sign for 260K. Then comes out to the media to talk about how he considered leaving the Dees...

I don't think Jones is that proud, stupid or arrogant to know he won't be captain next year.

Making a big song and dance about him giving it up only creates a negative news story.

They can have that story in November when they are back in training, or when it comes to appoint the next captain or captains they can do it then. Gawn, Viney and anyone else who wants to be captain can come out and earn it as well.

Jeebus, it’s not a race.

And I suggest if we’re looking for role-models for how to run a club, Adelaide should be close to last on that list.

Jesus there have been some rippers on Nathan Jones lately, just a few point out a couple:

- Shouldn't be on a family holidays, instead at home curled up watching every minute of every finals.

- Deserves to take a pay cut because he is selfish

- Needs to be delisted

- Needs to retire

-  Shouldn't be captain of the club because he doesn't even care..

Only at Melbourne do we absolutely tear strips of a club champion and heart and soul player ?‍♂️

That comment you made would be more of an insult to Nathan Jones if anything.

Fancy questioning one of our most loyal player we've ever had on whether he actually cares about this footy club!

Good [censored] grief..

Maybe not only the club needs to improve its culture, some supporters could do with culture improvement as well.

As a paying member I find this offensive. Culture on field will bring culture off field.

Pot, Kettle

Surely with all the dumb things the club has done in the past and by going backwards this year. Goodwin would not consider Jones and possibly Viney.

Welcome to demonland mate.

Giving up the Captaincy should have been part of his new contract. Let him give it away with dignity.

Oh absolutely I have said some things in the heat of the moment. Who hasn't? I am also the first to put my hand up 24 hours later and admit that some of the stuff I say was uncalled for.

If you want my honest opinion on Jones, I think off his own bat he will relinquish the captaincy once he gets back to Melbourne. I think with a full side next year cherry ripe he will probably get to 300 game mark then slowly eased out in the same way as Bernie Vince. I also think Viney should join him and give up the captaincy and focus on getting his body right.

Please do not compare Nathan Jones with that 'Tex' Walker dufus. Announcing the Captain/s will come in due time. The dust hasn't settled on this year yet.

Regardless of how you feel about him as a player or captain there is no need to denigrate him, sure you can criticise him for a bad game but for some posters to suggest he is selfish or doesn't care about the club is just way over the top.

Jones stepping down from captain cannot come soon enough. He has been a momentum killer for near a decade. I have been very critical of his style of play and leadership since the Neeld days. Appears to play a very self satisfied game that does not care if we win or lose just as long as he gets his 20 odd possessions and a goal or two.

Yeah let's follow Adelaide's terrific example of leadership

Maybe listen to commentary of the Prelim loss to WC while blind-folded on a bus too?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
