We should look into this for a few reasons

1. Our plethora of inside midfielders which are pushing others out (eg Tyson, Brayshaw). This will continue to happen

2. List balance, we need more outside midfielders and currency to bring them in. Viney will help us get there

3. Vineys inability to play on other positions, he is 1 inside mid recruit away from being pushed out and made redundant like Ollie Wines has

4. He is a free agent next year, we should try get value for him while we can

5. Rumours circulating of him being favourited by Goodwin and possibly causing a rift

6. His ability to stay on the park. We struggle to even get half a season out of him.

7. Jones re-signing- surely we only have enough room for one player bombing inside 50

8. Doesn’t defend

If there ever was a time to trade him it is now, and if we draft an Anderson or Rowell, someone will need to make room.

My first reaction is don’t go there unless Viney precipitated it. The playing group and the club has enough issues to deal with this preseason without an action like this that could negatively impact on team morale.

I've heard a whisper that Goodwin favors Max Gawn so we better trade him to get some value.

Rumour only as you say. But I think the jury should still be out. Can he get back to full fitness again to when he could will himself to contest after contest that I remember from several years ago. At his best he played a similar contested role to that of Selwood or Hodge, but OK without their offensive capabilities.

How soon before he starts a trade Max Gawn thread?

Or maybe he starts a 'Let's get into turning people into zombies like Night of the Living Dead so we can add Norm Smith to our coaching ranks for 2020' thread?

No, I've got it....

The 'Alistair Clarkson for assistant coaching role' thread isn't far away.

I have it on good authority wise that David Teague has changed his mind about the Blues job and will be joining us as a development coach.

He’s worth far more to us than we would get for him at the trade table.

I agree that he is the least versatile and has the lowest ceiling out of all our core midfielders. Take emotion and family connection out of it, and he’d be my first pick to trade from our inside mids.

Not going to happen though.

Seriously though, look at the ridiculous reasons above.  No thought, just looking to cause a bit of trouble.

Injuries?  The bloke missed one game this year.

Causing a rift?  Based on nothing but rumour that is lifted from a Facebook page or from some bloke on here with 50 posts.

List balance?  Who are the other decent inside mids that we have on our list that we can rely on?  Oliver and Harmes, and hopefully Gus when he is back in there regularly.  Outside of that we don't have much right now.

He isn't being traded, nor would it be considered.  Some may say that you need to consider all avenues to improve your list, but to me, this isn't one of them.  Not even close.

No way!

He will be back to his best with a full pre-season. His one dimensional is very very good! Max to Viney...

Give the bloke a go! Coming back from a serious foot injury. 2020 he will be up and about and back to best!

CLOSE THE THREAD!

Source for No.5?

Also, if Viney is as bad a player as you claim he is, we’d be lucky to get pick 60... May as well keep him then.

Can you get us pick 7 or better?

Otherwise, let the young man have a pre-season and lets see what he can produce.

To be honest, but over this trade thing. This time last year we were long term contracting these guys, now get rid of them.

i believe the late finish last year, first in a while, injures, short preseasons and the mentality got to them.

Changes will be made within the FD and hopefully we draft and trade logically. If so, with the draw we will have we will play in the gf next year.

If someone from the FD is reading, grab yze as assistant.

Absolutely not. I was really impressed by the second half of his season to be honest - was on a roll until that concussion against the Eagles. Those knocking his defending and aggression need only look not too far back to see how much of a competitor he is - can’t say the same for many on our list. Has never been the greatest kick and I doubt thats going to improve but theres plenty out there who absolutely butcher it (Adam Treloar)

My only knock on him right now is his speed. Used to be a lot faster of a mover so reckon he might need to shave down a few kegs to get some of that back.

And besides the point - what would we get for him? Second round at most. Anyone thinking a club would pay a 1st for him is having a laugh and if you think he’s worth that much then why sell him?

If it were up to me i would strip jack of the captaincy and let him focus on becoming the best player he can be, and ask him to play on the oppositions best player each week and keep them accountable around stoppage, almost be a defensive specialist in the midfield rotation.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
