POSTGAME: Rd 23 vs Kangaroos

Featured Replies

I too am #$@!# off with a game we could have won, but I seem to recall everyone here predicting a huge loss with Brown kicking a bag.  I don't suppose I can expect to see any posts saying what we did right to avoid that.

Glad thats out of the way. The positives I took from the game:

1. No injuries.

2. Showed patches of good ball use, particularly in the third.

3. Fritch, Hunty and Melky playing forward together along with Jones at HF.

4. Petracca in the midfield and midfield balance better in general.

5. Maxy kicking for goal.

Looking forward to the players coming back in terrific shape, trading in/out a couple of players, pick two and the footy department changes.

If there was any doubt about two rucks making the AA team again this year that was completely put to rest by Gawn's performance against the third best ruck in the comp.  The guy is amazing.

Gawn should be Captain in his own right. Viney needs to concentrate being in our best 22.

Well Nathan, thanks for coming for your end of your review. We have some footage here we'd like to show you. I hear you're not happy about the contract we've offered you? Nevermind, let's not just talk about footy, there's some great surf at this place called the Gold coast. Ever heard of it?

They said on the radio there was no one down the line to kick to and gawn was trying to get across.

Also do we blame Oliver  for giving away that undisciplined 50?

What was undisciplined about it, he spoiled the ball cleanly and was not even necessarily a mark let alone a 50.  Horrible decision to give 50.

It aint Jones, he’s been a stalwart of our club for 14 years, it’s numbnuts like ANB, Wagner, JKH, Spargo who are not good enough to be on AFL lists

Maxy was terrific today and needs to be captain in 2020.

Just reinforces lack of leadership & culture .. were on display in that play. Were were all the other leaders directing play & getting  players there???

I am one of ANB harshest critics but the kick was from 50 and was a reasonable effort which just missed.    Melksham puts his hands up saying he should have passed to him but he wasn't free enough for that option.

I wasn’t referring to today’s kick in particular, just that he has a long history of very poor skills.

Is there any chance ANB can ever kick straight from 30 metres out??

None.

While we're on 50s. Gawn got one early in the game and was sprinting to the new mark, while being impeded by the defender. That's clearly a 2nd 50 according to the new rules, and has been paid all year. Umpires are even warning the defender to stay out of the way.

This time, no warning, no 2nd 50. It should've been a shot from the goal square instead of 50m out. The only shot he missed all day.

We did right to avoid that.

THE QUESTION

I actually feel really sorry for ANB. Without even looking at the forum, I can tell he’s going to take some nasty heat from a few posters here.

THE ANSWER

ANb could have been a star

just not good enough

Poor ANB. The only way the bloke can defend himself is to get in the right position sometimes, win at least some 50/50 contests, and kick straight when under no pressure. If only he could do those things.

And what the [censored] has happened to Salem, Goodwin is the worst coach ever, he has ground these blokes to the point they have forgotten how to bloody handball and kick

Salem's game has dropped a bit in the last few weeks with many turnovers of his own occurring. He is also not a strong backman, it seems his skills are more dangerous forward.

Just on the bus heading home from the ground. Happy with the effort from most of the boys.

Gawny and Fritsch were amazing.

Frost never gave up and I owe him an apology for writing him off at the start of the year.

More to the point why was it not reversed when the North player hit Oliver.

I decided not to watch I say, for the first time in my life, and only just watched the last quarter. Jones’ centering kick out of the back half was fundamentally horrendous and he should have strips torn off him by the coach. He initially signalled that he was heading to the boundary side and all our players moved that way, and then he pulls the kick back to the middle. He has done that sort of stuff for too long. It’s criminal. All we needed was to force a boundary throw in. He has been offered 3 years at the GC and wouldn’t be surprised if he walks. Apparently is disgruntled at the Dees. If he leaves, that’s a sad way to finish up

Ain't it the truth? We comment of interpretation and advantage being mutually and simultaneously handed out to certain teams by the umpires, and being fully denied for other teams - as if the particular rules never existed. This was one of many related efforts to mar the game against North, today. It is all a sham - even though we received at least two such interpreted decisions in our favour - and both of these that I saw were not in front of our goals.

Right from the start of this season all decisions by all Maggots are made in all MFC Games, at CRUCIAL TIMES, to circumvent the free kick disparity, which now stands out so glaringly for the AFL to justify. Hence why we aren't in the Finals and there will be very minimal B Medal votes.

I reckon he'd be a terrific tagger

He's strong and intimidating enough - no bells, no whistles, just tag

Worked against Cunnington today

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?

It was only a preseason match but the new look Demons spearheaded by new coach Steven King looked impressive as they put on a clinic against perennial cellar-dwellers North Melbourne as they cruised to an 80 point victory at Casey Fields.
