What would you trade to bring him in? Would we trade pick 3 for him? A 2020 1st round pick?

If GC land a priority pick and push us back to pick 3, then an ideal scenario for us would be to offload pick 3 for Ben King.

That's a disaster if gold coast lose him after one season. 

Ben King was someone I rated extremely high last year. He's perfect prototype forward in the same vein as Tom Lynch. 

202cm tall who has played 12 games this year for 13 goals as an 18 year old.

Sam Weideman this year has played 11 games for 11 goals...

I know I was anti trade pick 2 or 3, but for this kid I would.

Its an interesting post.. is T-Mac a tradeable option? Not for me he isnt, he had a horrible year from the pres season.. i think if we get it right, he becomes very important, i think he can kick 50 plus again.

GC not likely to accept. If they were to entertain trading King, pick 2 would have to be involved. We might be able to get the Lions first rd pick (owner by the Suns) back in exchange with a bit of horse trading.

It all depends on what happens, re- priority picks with GC this year.

If they get given pick 2, then i'd be all for going after Ben King with pick #3. If we end up with pick 2, then i'd go after Anderson and try and figure out how to bring in 2 Meter Peter with our future first rounder next year and possibly our 2nd rounder this year.

Either way, we need to bring in a quality KPF as well as a quality mid in the next 2 years. Both King & Wright are over 200cms, so could provide a ruck chop out in future, whilst playing the majority of time in the FWD line.

As for quality mids, bring in any that we can get our hands on. I think we are well set for smalls and KPD's. Mids, KPF and good small forwards are first on our list of needs.

Wouldn't say a terrific group (not yet anyways), but much better than what's on offer after the top 2 this year.

It's a funny pattern really, I'd say that last year's draft was fantastic right at the pointy end, but faded quickly even by the mid first round. Seems like this year there are fewer players in that 'super' category (hence everyone being crabby about the prospect of going from 2 to 3) but has more depth of 'quality' right through the first round.

Presumably King would be a top-5 pick in this draft, it would be terrific to grab him knowing he was keen, and in a trade that kept us in the first round by shuffling later picks.

Well it's hard to analyze with 'mature player' and not knowing who this is but gold coast getting shafted and you are seriously undervaluing Ben King.

Values King at around pick 5, which would be fair. Realistically they already have Brissy's first pick (which is currently 17), and I'm assuming that if King really does want out that'll really strengthen the priority pick chance. So I'd say we'd end up with pick 3. I'd say Gold Coast will also prefer a more senior player than a pick from us, but along those lines I'd be offering up pick 3 and 21 (or next years second) plus Frost or OMac (offer OMac, but they'll probably want Frost) for King, Jack Martin and Brissy's first round pick this year.

No way would I trade T Mac. A player that kicked 6 goals in 3 quarters of footy recently.

Without him we would've lost to Carlton and probably Freo.

With him we would've beaten Bulldogs, West Coast (second game) and possibly even St Kilda given the low margins in each of those games and our impotent forward line on display.

And yes please to Ben King.

Interesting to think about what kind disproportionate advantage we can leverage out of The Lachie Weller Suns, if we pick get pick 2 and they get a pick 11 PP etc? I mean, could we could ask for Ben King and pick 11 for pick 2. We could also ask for Ben King, Izak Rankine and pick 11 for pick 2, 20 & 2020 first. The mind boggles

Yeah, it would need to be a quality player, but for that part I am basing it on Gold Coast's serious need for mature quality.

No good having all the top draft picks if they all want to leave right away... which bring me to the second point!

I hesitated even as I posted because Ben King for 'new' pick 20 and 'move' of pick 8 to 2 sounds pretty limited.

I think it is partly wishful thinking but also partly the problem of what can a club do when a player definitely wants out and as a club you don't have the credibility to force them to stay. Not without causing a ripple of irritation through other players. Half the club is eyeing the door anyway, there's very little sense of a club bond, zero tradition, and I don't think anyone really believe the club will become anything serious any time soon. It isn't really possible to stare down a kid who might very happily walk back into the draft the next year, knowing that they'll almost certainly land at a victorian club as they wish.

Anyway, I just chose 8 to be the rebounding pick as a lucky number. Let's imagine, uh, 11 and hope that it seems more reasonable!

It was mostly tongue-in-cheek; part of GC's PP argument being that they need to bring in mates.

I don't think it does.

He will continue to learn from the best, (gawn in another 5 years time will be very much in the twilight of his career), and would've had ample time to develop into a genuine #1 ruck (which we all know he is better at than a ruck rotator).

King by that time would be well and truly on his way to the peak of his powers, who could then pinch hit in the ruck.

They would want a player - Trac or Brayshaw would possibly get it done. 

I think a lot of people are undervaluing King. He was taken at pick #6 in a draft with a very strong top 7/8. Most other drafts he would have been closer to pick 3. Then he has far exceeded the expectations of a lanky key forward in his first year. This reasonably gives him a value closer to pick 1 or even more.

I think the only possible way that a trade could work is if GC aren't confident on keeping King long term, and they aren't given a start of first round priority pick. In that case I think they'd accept a straight swap for pick two so that they can pair up Anderson and Rowell.
