WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON

Yes its not a flashy signing. It might be a bit Vanilla but its of lower risk.

- Has been durable, playing the last 80 games for GWS (bar the one on the weekend)

- Will be able to run out games with his elite endurance (something a lot of our players have not done well)

- His size gives us a marking option further up the ground so our forwards aren't stuck on the wings as often

- Loves to run and spread, a catalyst for something GWS do so well and something we desperately need

- Has played finals four years in a row. Was close to best on ground in the prelim against Richmond in 2017

- He can pinch hit in the ruck so our forwards don't have to and has played both back and fwd if needed. True utility

If the rumors are true I for one am very keen to see this guy cementing a spot in our side on the wing and playing consistent footy for us. He's a solid mark and has decent inside/rebound 50 numbers across his career. He played in a very deep side for his position at GWS and he could really add what this side is in need of.

If there is a better free agent out there that we are not already chasing, please let me know.

Otherwise, Just do it.

The fact that he has been good enough to retain his place for 80 out of a possible 81 games in a team as strong as the giants, including a number of finals, makes him a class above a large number on our current list.

Surely it’s a no-brainer.

interesting comment..

no idea which is better but I suspect salary cap and term of contract wise you may not be too far off the mark.

After paying overs salary wise for Tom Mac and Brayshaw last year we're not as flush as some may think. Then again no club is.

Hawks , Geelong and Richmond have an inbuilt benefit because they are seen as real premiership chances and players will take say 10% less to be there.I expect the same goes for WA born players playing for WC.

A big body who can move around the ground and also give us options up forward/in the ruck - a handy inclusion! Not a big name signup, but we can't bring in just stars (we can't afford them, and be honest, given our head mess of a club, why would anyone want to join us if they're looking for glory!?)

Will be pleased if this eventuates.

Frost replacement?

Slight jump of the gun. Frosts management today being quoted saying MFC stating he is a 'required player' at Melbourne and contract talks have been positive. I imagine its more about fitting him in financially more than anything.

To answer your question IF Frost were to leave then no Tomlinson would not be his replacement. Plays his best football through the middle of the ground on a wing. He has helped out in other positions down back, forward and ruck but plays best in space with his elite running.

I doubt it, he was tried in defence and it was arguably his worst position.

Are you actually joking? Or is this a serious suggestion that if you had to choose, you'd take Frost?

There's some amazing nonsense on this thread.

Let's assume bringing him in doesn't kill our salary cap space (which, given he's almost a direct swap for Lewis and Garlett, it couldn't possibly).

Is he better than any of ANB, either of the Wagners, JKH, Lockhart, Dunkley or some of the other fringe players regularly getting games with us?

Of course he is. It's an utter no-brainer. If he's a walk up start at GWS, he sure as he is a walk up start for us.

Really not sure about Tomlinson after watching him tonight, doesn’t do enough.

He was dropped last week after how many summers?

Perhaps he told GWS he was leaving the nest

Tomlinson doesnt set the world on fire, but he's a servicable player. It's easy to cherry pick games

Hasnt played in 2 weeks. Wouldnt judge him on one performance. Played 20 games this year ina stacked team, would think that says enough regardless of tonight.

Also, only played 56% of game time - injured?

Played 20 games in a team riddled with injury.

I would think it says nothing either way...

Tonight he was ineffective and a bit of a lump.  Probably get a closer look next week.

This must be a joke.  Not anywhere near Frost.   Tomlinson was poor to average tonight.  Would want to show something v Pies next week

Don't forget to look at the state of our own backyard before worrying too much about the state of next door's roses...

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
