My son was coached by McCartney and he liked him, I thought he was a jarring tactless boor (McCartney not my son). Different folks different strokes?

good summation

You just made my day

Finally bb things are looking up!

What we need most is people who can communicate with and get the best out of young men. from senior coach to any and all assistants.

If we lose someone like that, then that's a big loss to the club.

I think the modern player has to be handled differently !!!

Not able for tough/honest/real/criticism

A BIG NEED FOR HARDNESS AND PRIDE

Hnmm I reckon in society and for that matter any organization

you need to be realistic, tough , honest and be able to deliver constructive criticism when its needed

As a society we have become a soft , gaumless and largely welcoming entity for all shades of grey.

This is why we have rampant crime, hideous debt, and morals that stink to the high heaven.

All in the name of self fulfiling accomodation of every zebra that won't grow stripes.

Hardness , pride, respect for authority and doing things without fuss or arguement

Yep that's the name of the game I reckon.

Yeah I'm Old school, and glad that I am!

How would Norm Smith go with coaching now Eh??

i dont think a lot of people quite understand how ahead of his times Norm Smith actually was. In his day he was NEW school.

Personally Id love to have Smith coaching us.

Right on, Picket!

I blame Viney Snr for that. It was his job to fix it!

He has to go IMV!!!!

I wasn’t impressed with Maccas work at the Bulldogs and things look no different over here. Appears to be divisive and polarising figure. Then again he has had to work with some prime Prima Donnas who are very highly paid but of ordinary output. There are others who’s influence are questionable. Sometime I compare Viney Snr to a Connolly type. The rot extends to the core of our administration.

Were you familiar with his work at the bulldogs other than watching their games on tv ?

Norm would go straight for the jugular with any player - no room for personality outcomes or self-interest. It was 'Team, team, team' and what you are doing to improve 'Team'? Now, get on with it.

Thanks Brendan, I for one feel confidant that we are a much better club for having your services over the past five years, so Dee's Onwards and Upwards, in the long term the Team will show the Doubters that we are not just a Flash in the Pan....................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Changes have to be made at the club for the poor season we have had, it can’t always be the sacking of the head coach to make change.

And the head coach was awarded an extension before the season even started, a bit hard to fling him before the extension has even started.

I thought McCartney was quite pivotal under Roos and developed quite a few players. It was only when Goodwin took over that things started to turn sour. Perhaps this was because McCartney didn’t respect Goodwin’s tactics, and thought due to his lengthy experience, knew better hence leading to conflicts in the coaches box.

Goodwin needs an experienced assistant coach who can be called upon by him when needed, but at the end of the day, someone who knows they’re still an assistant. We can’t have someone again who is stubborn and ungovernable. Malthouse would be the same as McCartney, Richardson might be the opposite.

Hell of a lot of guesswork going on there.

So that’s it, bone Macca, not surprisingly that’s the management response, good ole boys can’t blame themselves I guess, if we have an active board of directors the only answer is to drain the swamp directly under them, it’s not a job for life you know boys.

I fear that's about right Bluey!! Get rid of the hard nut realist and surround yourself with Toady reality deniers and she will be right.

Typical response from a weak and poorly managed organisation. Throwing Macca out won't make one bit of difference.

Strangely....youre actually correct.  Many are making curious and erroneous evaluations as to the real worth of some in the FD.

As you oddly allude....many assumptions are being made.
