Would be better if there was Option 3 “someone else”. Personally I’d prefer Ratten.

Pyke will be sacked. No Crows coach has survived two years in a row of not making finals

I reckon there are two things keeping Pyke in his position,

1. the payout which has been reported.

2. no standout candidate to replace him. would they feel Goodwin was a better choice? i suspect some at the club would. would Melbourne let Goodwin go? i'd think unlikely.

"would Melbourne let Goodwin go? i'd think unlikely."

Give me a minute to think about that ahhhhhhhh where is the signing pen?

riddle me this

Pyke to Melbourne as Football director and Goodwin to Adelaide as an assistant.

Each gets paid 1.5M over three years thus cutting down both pay outs by roughly the same sum.

Would you be willing to pay that amount. (It's most probably less than what we would pay if we sacked Goodwin at the bye or end of season next year.)

You left out the bit where we wouldn't go for another untried coach and would need to pay $1.5mill + to get a worthwhile, experienced coach to replace Goody.

If not goodwin, who? is the biog question that i think needs to be asked.

I don't like him as a bloke but Ross Lyon is gettable, his game style suits our list, he has a fantastic coaching record including grand final appearances with two clubs. maybe rebuilding isn't his thing but i reckon he'd get us back up the pointy end in 2020

Pyke has stood down as senior coach of Adelaide. Phase one complete, will they now make a long-term offer to Goodwin?

Highly doubt we'll let Goodwin go, in the future they might allow coach trading like player trading, so I'd do Goodwin for pick 3 in the draft.

Yes Adelaide please make a long term offer to Goody.

I would not be disappointed at all.

I reckon there will be plenty of speculation about it, but I doubt he makes the switch.

Having said that, would it surprise any of us if he made the move, knowing how strong his ties are to the Crows?  Probably not.

He would only go if he didn't have the confidence in the list and his coaching team to make finals next year.  The heat will be on in 2020.

However, I just can't imagine Goodwin leaving the Dees.  He is a proud man and believes in himself.

He will want to finish what he started.  And imv he is the best person available to do it.

Blight suggesting Pyke might go to Freo.

Adelaide have been into Goodwin for a long time, so it will be fascinating to see what happens.

And then Ross Lyon to the Crows?

Their membership would revolt.... Another matter if Goodwin was successful but he is a long way from having runs on the board.

Scott of the North variety is my bet.

Fascinating, Goodwin to Adelaide...Pert friends with Roos and Ross...

I have absolutely no doubt that Goodwin is safe and will be coach for the whole of next season, another poor season then who knows. However, if Ross were to come to Melbourne I would spew, literally spew, track him down and spew on him.

I doubt a veteran like Ross would take on a place as toxic as the Crows right now unless they offer him amazing coin.

Hard to believe but culture wise they're in a worse state than we are right now.

Will take them weeks to go through the appointment phase.  Then there's the new coach's style/playing methods and player preferences.  He will have little time to assess before the draft.  What a shimozlle!

Disgruntled players will be leaving like rats out of a burning drain pipe i reckon.

A great time to raid them for a few morsels if they fit our bill.

Yes it is hard to call.  But I'm not hearing the football director over there and footy manager getting the Axe. Which is wrong IMO.

But 1 is  Premiership teammate of Goodwin, the other a long term team mate.

Who Knows?

Surely that is an over reaction.  How about looking green and bilious in his general direction....
