It is [censored] infuriating. We give a free kick away on our attacking 50 and we are so pushed up that the Saints take 2 kicks and 5 seconds to be having a shot on goal. Richo was laying into us.

Our defensive awareness forward of centre is getting progressively worse and has been an issue throughout Goodwin's reign.

what more can one say about this gameplan

Fritter in the forward half of the ground easily > Fritter in the defensive half. Can't believe it took this long to make that happen.

Well I’ll take it.

If we can start defending, we might win this.

so it really needs to be discussed. Do I know more about footy than Goodwin? I've been asking for fritsch to be played since day 1 and quite frankly I think its embarrassing that it took him 17 rounds to do it.

Nothing to do with the game plan. If the players don't work to position, that's what happens.

Lewis up forward is already a find for us.

Both Wagners need to go!

Lack of fitness, arrogance, or laziness? Which makes us a worse defensive running side?

They've been ok Jaded IMO.  Limitations at the moment as early days but both play with intensity ar the footy and opponents.  Josh really dropped off from a reasonable start to the season then went back for a stint at Casey when higher rated opponents returned but thats what happens to inexperienced players.

Cory similar.  In for a few out for a few.

Takes a while to find feet at such a high level.  Lets see how they go for remainder of year eh.

You think it was a coincidence that when our back six returned from injury that Fritsch went fwd again?

Oh to make positional discoveries a mere 6 weeks before a player is due to retire. How useful.

I prefer to think of it a a low centre of gravity- he is so strong around the hips and rarely goes to ground

Nope.

After a couple of dud tunes, we have another for the victory playlist -

James Brown, Get on Up:

Starts with a goal to Fristsch, finishes just after Smith nails his.

So all our goals have been thanks to two mighty smooth songs so far.

Don't understand when you get a fast start why the hell you don't go doubly hard to make it a six goal advantage. Let them back far too easily. Lever, Lewis, Fritta, Clarry and Petracca have been good.

Why is Lingy yelling at us?

ANB just gets in the way.

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
