Sounds like a great appointment.

But we have had a lot of "great appointments"  -  PJ, Glen Bartlett, Roos, Goodwin, Viney as captain, Lever, May ... the list continues.  And yet, here we are, sitting 17th on the ladder.

This year's pre-season was the big killer for me. Totally stuffed up our season. I know lots of players needed surgery, but to have 17 players not ready by the time the NAB cup (or whatever it was called this year) came around was a shipwreck.

If this new fitness fella can be part of renewed matrix, whereby our fitness, medical, sport science, allied health and coaching staff can unite on a pre-season plan that prepares us well for season 2020 - then I might applaud.

this fellow and the caliber of his resume does not fit the MFC archetyoe

based on this in depth assessment one can only conclude this is a suspect appointment and it is impossible not to conclude this is some deep state double agent activation by the Collingwood FC intelligence apparatus designed to keep us wedded to the bottom of the ladder through a complex and entirely coincidental-appearing set of injurious events in 2020

Thats already happened this year.

I like it a lot.

A big positive in what's been a shockingly negative year.

This is not a dig at you personally SMJ, but when Paul Roos referred to supporters and a ‘veil of negativity’ he was wrong. Very wrong. It’s a ‘metal yashmak of misery’.

Fantastic signing. And he’ll have them early now we’re not in finals. Hopefully gets this group up and firing come round one next year.

Interesting to see what he can do with AVB.

I wish this blioke all the best and expect to see improvement. but not seeing how his record stacks up against the hype. Has any side he has had control over had ultimate success.

This guy must really love a challenge.

In two minds here.

Great to get this guy

But we still have all those other guys stuffing around and stuffing up in the FD.

Not sure we'll  get the magic improvement  some think this will make.

Bit like yummy icing on a turd cake tbh.

The age understands the Dees are parting ways with several members of the club’s fitness and conditioning department, including head physiotherapist Sam Pietsch, who has been at Melbourne for more than a decade.

While the moves coincide with the arrival of former Port Adelaide high performance chief Burgess - who is returning to Australia from a stint with English Premier League club Arsenal - it’s believed they are not directly the result of him joining the Demons.

I hope Burgess has started his research and influencing of programs earlier than his contract start date in November.

The gap between Misson leaving and the other staff members supposed to be departing will bee too great - approximately 8 weeks or more prior to Burgess’s arrival. What happens...? Do they keep going on Misson’s questionable methods?

That’s unacceptable and will be akin to business gross misconduct by Mahoney and Pert if allowed to happen.

Read an article from Steven May last night saying he has already sat down with Burgess and mapped out an off season program for him.

Then we have (new high performance director) Darren Burgess coming in who’s known for being a fitness freak and I’ve had a little chat with him and he’s got no worries with me. He reckons he’s got a great plan for me so I’m just excited.

Got this from bigfooty..

Jay Clark on MMM said that Burgess is planning the most brutal fitness pre season ever for the melbourne blokes, apparently the club wants to find out who's serious.

Watch half our list sook and complain to Paul Marsh because our pre season is way too hard.

players wouldn't dare. after the [censored] camp fiasco and their performance this year (and for parts last year) they would be ridiculed by their peers and the media.

And are we convinced it was the younger brigade that complained? I'd really not be surprised if it was someone within the leadership group.

Players won’t say a word a 2nd time.

The Blowtorch from the media started today.

Goody just got interviewed on SEN and repeated the same spin we all know

The Commentators didn’t fall for it...

Dermy's take courtesy of SEN.  Not sure who he's referring to here as i switched off about 10 min in to the 2nd quarter...

“That was a meaningless performance and they have little to no identity as a football team. I cannot think less of them this morning after last night.”

Brereton pinpointed an exact moment that highlighted the issues at the Demons.

“There was a situation last night where Melbourne had banked up against their own inside 50 ball. So their backmen have pressed up," he said.

“The ball got rebounded. The closest Melbourne midfielder to the chase, the ball got to the wing, the closest Melbourne player to chase chased for five metres and peeled off. This is in the first half, there’s still a half to go.

“He peeled off the chase and then tapered down the sprint to the interchange bench. He actually disguised that he wasn’t going to chase by taking himself off in a rotation.

“When I saw that, I replayed it several times to make sure I didn’t see something incorrectly.”

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
