Many of us die-hard Dees believe that we could have struck gold with Kozzie.  Wouldn't it be amazing if he announced his 'arrival' to the wider football community against the Saints on Saturday night?  Against Freo he looked to me to be primed and ready to go.  Just a gut feeling that tomorrow night he might take centre stage.

Well called.

We've had some dead-set ripping indigenous small forwards in my time supporting the club (Jeff Farmer, Aaron Davey, Jeff Garlett). After watching Kozzie on the weekend,  I think we've got another beauty on our hands.

He will be all the better for a regular cache of games this year, and a more consistent schedule. Give him a couple more years then look out!

how dare u leave out aussie wonaeamirri ;)

Can I just say how awesome it was to see Kozzie starting in the middle against at the Saints. Having that speed and excitement in the middle of the ground helped create that first goal to Viney.

As soon as I saw him line up in the centre for the opening bounce against Freo I thought this is going to be a great move. He's obviously pinch hitting at the moment but we seem to use him for the opening bounce of most quarters before he moves forward. Gives us real x-factor around the ball to kick things off.

Interesting that Ratten said on 360 that they felt they'd got the game back on their terms and then a 10-15 period from Pickett turned the game.  Never comes down to one player but pretty high praise coming from the other side.

Interesting to read this. I was discussing the game with a mate yesterday (Dees supporter), and he said - ‘we were really up against it until Kossie turned the entire game in its head, single handedly’.

This then caused me to reflect on Kossie’s contribution - I immediately thought, ‘yep, you’re spot on’.

Kossie turned this game for us - Ratten is absolutely on the money. And he’s a good bloke for acknowledging this.

He’s great but he didn’t turn the game. Our defence kick started a bunch or chains from the back half that led to ANB, Pickett and Sparrow goals - then they continued that into the second half occasionally screwing up and letting Steele to kick goals.

Love him but nah.

And the good thing was that the Saints had no one to stop Kossie in full flight!!!

I think to say “Kozzie turned the game” is a very simplistic way for putting it. But fact is we were DESPERATE for a goal and he managed to create it almost out of nothing. Those are team-lifting moments (which we have sourly lacked for a while).

Big call but Kossie could even be the best by the time he pulls stumps. If that's the case we may see a medallion or two around his neck at the lend of the season.

The comparisons to Cyril Rioli have been made before but against the saints was the first time it was really evident to me. Took his goals brilliantly, great pressure, zip and spark. The air crackles when he gets the ball.

He's a game changer. Such a buzz to see him running around in the red and blue.

Its a shame he missed that goal when he hit the pack at lightning speed from out of nowhere.   Would have given him three brilliant goals.

I agree I think the game started to turn further up the field.  Which is why I found it interesting for the opposition coach to single out Kozzie as the one that changed it.  Maybe it's an easier message to send to supporters than we got outworked in the midfield / by the melbourne defenders.

Why did Petracca tell him to settle when he took that intercept mark in the 3rd and go back for a set shot? Hard to tell what was ahead on the tv but it looked as though he could've run in for a regulation shot at goal. Sometimes it's better to have a shot on the run instead of go back for a set shot as it's a more fluid action.

With Trac on track to be our dusty or danger....

Brown coming up fwd....May and Lever hitting their strides...if Kozzie keeps playing like this then things are going to be good.

My secret bet (not so secret now) is that no doubt someone on here will complain that he drifts in and out of games, only has single digit possessions thus we wasted our time in recruiting him...

Imagine writing off an 18 year old rookie in the garbage dump that was the covid 2020 season.  You wouldnt even write one off in a normal season unless you were a total [censored].

No complaints from me EO.

In the words of the great Jack Dyer, he’s the type of player who only needs 2 or 3 kicks to finish with 5 or 6 goals.

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

    POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.
