Yeah ... and how did that turn out?  Oh ... premierships ... OMG, is that what it is all about?

Back to May:  the big downer is how he presented to preseason.  Maybe he needs another 12 months to get over that.  But meanwhile that would leave Jack Viney, who I absolutely love as a player and an on field 'by example leader', but have serious questions as to his overall leadership qualities.

May was simply unbelievable today.

 Unbelievable.

Are you a tall back in the league you play in @stevethemanjordan? You seem to be most passionate when commenting on them

I’m racking my brain trying to come up with one other player in 50 years of watching footy who so demonstrably and indiscreetly criticised a teammate on the field and within a quarter.

Can anyone think of one?

I can recall Ricoh used to wave his arms and look sad whenever teammates kicked poorly to him, but can’t recall ever seeing what May did today.

plenty. Heath Shaw, Phil Matera, Michael Voss to name a few.

Yep mono

THAT IS ALL WHAT IT IS ABOUT!

I love what May brings to the team. Plays tall and small. Has speed and his kicking is a weapon.

His leadership is first class. Sets the standards on field and has high expectations.

The challenge for May is to drive  standards in the off season and pre season.

No, midfielder.

I'm passionate because we've been screaming out for a quality key defender with a mature body for how many years?

I’m hoping May brings a bit more of the mongrel our culture so desperately needs.

Yes Frost said he overreacted and it is all good.

Just like Byron Pickett and Phil Read brought. We play so much better when we have a fight in a game. Last week was the first one I can remember this year and we beat Fremantle. Last year we were physical most weeks. We need to play like the Baby Bombers used to. We need to bully and bash as well as run teams off their feet.

No issue with what occurred yesterday but FFS, lets see how he comes back for pre season before we start anointing May as our Captain for next season.

Some absolute hypocrites on here who slated the club for forking out a first round pick on May and not doing their due diligence with his lack of conditioning, discipline and fondness for the frothies.

Now we've got the next Voss/Reiwoldt on our list

S May is a very good player however say it once whatever there was to say and don't harp on it. It wasn't a good look IMO and it is that, an opinion.

I would not want to be belittled by a mistake that was made and be told off for it by my team mate. Goody says it is healthy then ask Frosty as you can see he wasn't happy about words that were said to him.

Frosty will still make mistakes as all players do as it is part of the game.

S M take it out on the opposition however but make sure you don't get suspended for the upteenth time or it reflects badly on you.

This has got nothing to do with Frost (in principle) ... if we were to see players giving other players a spray for making an error (an error not meant by the way) then all the players would be giving all the other players a spray all game long.

Taking it even further does a player who makes an error deserve to cop a spray from every other player in the team (including those who have made errors themselves)

May himself made a colossal error during the game when he short passed the ball straight to the opposition in their forward 50.

So if we're being consistent Frost would have been within his rights to give May a spray for his needless turnover.

Yeah,  let's do that hey ... spray city.  Great for club culture.  Not.

Yes of course the existing culture is so good so solid so perfect<

To prove my point I might just come back to this thread every time May makes an error.  And he does make errors.  I've seen him mistime his spoils and turn the ball over and he has only played a handful of games.  He's not exactly squeaky clean himself.

And I don't have May in the gun either ... it's more about the principle of giving players a spray out on the field.

He copped a spray from the coach for rolling up to pre-season training in poor condition and then another spray from the leadership group for getting on the grog during rehab.  Perhaps he thinks it's his turn to dish it out.

And some of you want him as captain?  Astonishing.

You don't fix it by making things worse.

Do you even know how these things work?  You sound like you're just angry at another loss and you want your pound of flesh.

In a crisis it's best to keep a cool head.  So hopefully May gets called out for his stupid outburst.  He looked more like a juvenile than captaincy material.

Things don't work at the MFC, that is the problem...has been for decades,

Seeing someone on the field REALLY care that a mistake was made, and that it was not good enough was music to my ears.

Hope he gives Jones or Viney a blast when they butcher a basic skill too, things may actually change for the better

Our on field leadership has been shocking for so long.

And if you lot want to have a consistent argument you should be calling out Frost for not giving May a spray when he (May) needlessly turned the ball over with an errant short pass earlier in the game.

So how about it?

You lack consistsncy and experience Wyl ... love your passion but you are wrong in this instance

You have to be consistent with these sorts of things.  So be consistent

May therefore deserves a spray hinself if we are being consistent but where does is stop?

Put aside your anger about the clubs current fortunes and keep a cool head.

I have read what you wrote and i disagree.

Our Leadership onfield has been shiithouse for years.

No one is accountable. Who sets the examples?

Certainly not Jones or Viney

i loved seeing what May did on Sunday. More of it please.

I lack experience?? In what??

You have no idea what i have been through in 56 years.

These well paid Snowflakes who represent The MFC need to get real or just go.

Other Clubs can change systems in a matter of days. At Melbourne it takes years, and then it is too hard.

WE NEED LEADERS and more of them

Stephen May Keep it up....

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
