Looking forward to Goody telling us about Weid's stellar 8-touch game. I mean it is three more than last week and he does fill out jumper very smartly. Really got a player on our hands there.

And if it's good enough to start a Trade Brayshaw thread then one should be started immediately on Petracca who's NEVER going to be the player most think he'll become. Col Sylvia Mk2. Wasting everybody's time. Trade now or watch his stock plummet further in 2020.

Goodwin is out of his depth. The list has been overrated and we're looking at another mini rebuild.

Good times.

It’s just so wonderful watching other teams prepare for a serious September Finals Campaign each year, when the MFC has invented another reason why it was just too hard....

Our kick to handball stats last week were 237 - 150

This week: 217 - 186.

Season average: 214 - 154

We threw our bye-week tweak out the window.

I doubt that was Goodwin's doing.

Our players don't yet have the maturity to slow down.

Jeez Goody could show some emotion at a presser once in a while, guy is a bloody robot compared to coaches like Scott or Bucks and talks in a tone that’s meant to make everything sound positive when nothing is positive at all.

He makes it sound like just another day in the office without a care in the world as long as his salary goes in for the week.

Brisbane is a great example of how it's done. They've been improving year on year, and now have a really dangerous squad that will only get better with time. Plus, they look and play like they want to win. It's nice to see but I remember the last Lions dynasty, and really wish we were on track for our own.

Overtaken by another team, again.

Yep. I know what you mean.

Has Goodwin moved Petty off Hipwood yet?

Actually Goody didn't make the move. Steven May was shown on vision talking to Frost and getting him to pick up Hipwood, showed some on field leadership. Very slow to react up in the coaches box...

Lost it in the coaches box - and not for the first time

No it was lost on the field by the players. Poor decision making, poor skills and just plain average level players. Brisbane have genuine elite stars and are a very good team now. We are not.

By the MFC, yet again.

PS shouldn’t you be on a tour or basking in the hell sun instead of tuning into this chit?!

If Brayshaw dumps one more blind handball over his shoulder this year, I might just spew. For the love of god, show some care with the footy.

And recruiting criteria is to load up on a bunch of blokes with battered bodies that have had enough

I'm exaggerating because I've had enough

The MFC should have thrown the kitchen sink at Roos to finish the job

There's some crazy Portuguese parade going on outside. Seems about as organised as our forward line.

Anyone else notice May giving Marty Hore a bit of a spray/advice in the 3rd?

We were up by about 10 points when Cameron kicks the ball long to a contest in the pocket from about 70m, Hore looked like he was manning Hipwood and they both ran to the contest together which May spoiled to the boundary.

Zorko doesn’t give up the contest, picks the ball up on the line and kicks it to the top of the square where Hipwood ran on his own to mark and goal for his first. Hore just stood there ball watching while Hipwood ran off. As soon as Hipwood took the mark unopposed that is when May turned to Hore to let him know about it. Hore will be a good player for us but I liked the way May went about it, just reminding a new player that concentration levels need to be at a high level constantly.

Sometimes this site makes me laugh out loud. It's full of wise after the event holier than thou know-alls who just dwell on a the half empty site.

the site is full of people who pay their membership subscriptions every year and hope for some return on their money, Some have done this for many years some can barely afford it but the pay just the same, They are usually optimistic at the beginning of the season but bewildered at their beloved team's woeful efforts as the season  progresses. i don't see them as "holier than thou know alls" I see them as betrayed supporters who are desperately seeking answers but a fed corporate bulldust by the club after every loss. i personally don't. find the clubs efforts very funny. Watch us lose to Carlton .. the script of disaster is unfolding for 2019 from prelim to wooden spoon! Only the mfc could manufacture this!

It has been that sort  of  year for us, just struggling to get some sort of game style going. No more excuses just play the one's who want to play for their football lives and who want to put the jumper on with pride.

Just bring in Preuss and let him prove to you Goody that he can play the level. Another who is playing for his football life is JKH and now is a good time to prove himself to you as well as he has had  consistent form for weeks.

Have to keep positive for what it is worth and have to find some courage and some character for it has been missing for quite sometime.

I think that l need to regroup for next week to watch us play the Blues. It's going to be hard to do but l will find a way by then.

You just know how this will all end.

Pert, Bartlett, Goody will be gone in the medium term having achieved no success.  In the meantime we get fed a fantasy by the Club.

Pure rot

I think Frost errors are down significantly. He contributes well, although unsteady. He is overly castigated here.

Frost has definitely improved and does a lot more right than wrong.

Where as Hore has been praised by many, but fumbles a lot, disposal is average and is slow. Cost a few goals with errors today.

You release we had 6 years of year on year improvement until this year, a league record. It was inevitable we would take a step back

Well said ..I think 55yrs of failures is about the tipping point , I think 50 years of watching this club go over the cliff after tasting success for 5 mins is the tipping point we’re as a paid up member for 20+ years we are fed up!

To be fair until this year we had improved year on year since Roos took over. This isn’t excusing our season but we are having our dip in the cycle that in my gut I kinda felt was going to come.

The biggest error the club can make right now is just continue on our current trajectory with a game plan that clearly isn’t working. This year has worth to it, massive worth that I firmly believe could take us all the way in the future. It sounds ridiculous but I’m actually upbeat because I was worried that we would make a crazy charge for the finals and smash our players into the ground in the process.

Finals are now mathematically basically gone, focus on 2020 and what we can get out of this year. I would actually like to see the club and football department undergo a rigorous analysis ASAP of the game plan, how we see it being tweaked or completely changed, who we need to target whether that’s players or coaches, and start the wheels turning now.

Geelong before their push into that first premiership run had a bad year (although not as bad as we’ve got going now) but they used it to set things up. We have to do the same.

Alright so I’ve just finished watching after having to go with 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. When watching just now had that nice teaser from Viney and then wow. Just wow, total implosion. Bickering between teammates and inept ability to hack the pressure. It really feels like we’ve gone back to the 2016 team with terrible decision making, handballs to teammates 3 metres away hitting the deck and just all round dumb football.

Got that out of the way, I thought we really came to play today with decent pressure and cleanish disposal early. The one glaring thing we were getting torched in was the clearances, which didn’t help. Maybe I was being overly optimistic but I kind of felt that maybe we had stepped forward by still being in it despite that stat. It ripped us to shreds in the end and it usually does.

Good performers:

Salem - quality, quality, quality. Please develop cloning technology quicker.

Decent performers:

Clarry always there as usual and took some nice marks. Viney working his way into some reasonable form, but that first step or 2 out of a contest looks like a truck. Harmes was consistent, probably should have had a goal. May was very good on a mis-matched opponent. Trac good early then trailed off.

Invested quite a bit in this game. I really wanted to win, more so than last week. I believe wholeheartedly in finishing a season strong to rebound. As for tanking? Been there done that.

An early poster mentioned our lack of football smarts. Couldn’t agree more and it has to be on par with any lack of skill or speed we have. My mate seems to think the backline is set and that all we need to do is fix our forward line and we’ll be back. Total bogus BS. This midfield doesn’t win us a flag for me. It might with a 10% tweak but not right now.

The end

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
