A six week stint in the SANFL certainly worked for him binman, came back on a mission. Unfortunate he hurt his knee very late in the game, will miss some games now.

6w i believe, was just bruising and ligaments ....he was lucky.

They’ve got to suspend him for a week and send out a memo to all clubs that it won’t be tolerated. Why can’t the goal umpires who have plenty of time and opportunity to observe these incidents simply inform the field umpire at any given interval, or put them in the book themselves? How hard is it?

It’s not just pinching which causes visible bruises, either. Defenders do it to the areas of the midfriff which are hidden by the guernsey and it is extremely painful. It’s not part of the game at all and frankly constitutes assault. Raking studs on the back of a player’s legs and ankles is the other one umpires often do nothing about. That should be punished as well. In suburban footy these are the types of dog acts which cause a player to swing an elbow into a jaw or punch some ribs in frustration. Then we blame that bloke for lashing out.

Outlaw it all and throw the book at any kind of thuggery that doesn’t have any place in modern footy. It’s not tough, it’s not brave and it’s not in the spirit of the game. Stratton needs to ask himself this morning - “would I have done it to Tex Walker or Buddy?” Of course not. Pull your head in then.

This pinching BS will filter down to junior footy I guarantee it.

My 9yo has already been continuously punched in the back against a couple of teams this year.

Can he kick goals from 35m?

How’s the bruises on Fantasia’s arm from Stratton pinching him? Bizarre from Stratton.

Childish behaviour. Inexcusable. It’s not even the first of the month!

Looking more likely we will be wooden ? by the end of the week. Great achievement Dees!

What a woeful quarter by the Saints. Nearly every disposal was cringeworthy.

Agreed.

Ollie Wines has spent a few weeks in the twos, moreso to get his touch and fitness back.  But if is good enough for him as captain (and Hawks ex captain Roughy) it is good enough for TMac, our co-captains and every other player who is not performing over a few weeks or lacking fitness.  Season is lost.  There should be no exceptions.

i've been wondering if something else other than foot issues is behind tmac's terrible form

could there be some offield issues at play here? and could it be the same with omac who has also gone backwards and seems disengaged?

just wondering.....don't know anything

Jack Martin is putting together a very good year.

The cynic would say it’s his contract year, the optimist would say he’s finally got his body right and is realising his potential.

If Carlton wins we would have pick #1

Can't see Richardson surviving beyond 2019 if 'Aints get beaten here. Coffin meet nail.

out of interest.... what is his contract situation?

There’s nothing more Melbourne than making a Prelim one season then ‘winning’ the spoon the following season. We should probably think about changing our name.

Carlton v Dogs will be interesting tonight. I mean the dogs haven't been great since they won there flag. I look at us 2nd last on the ladder and just think if only we could have held on against west coast and adelaide then things would look so much better.

Anyway how we lost to the saints by 40 points is still beyond me.

Pick 3 it is then. Unless the Blues get up.

We might do better with a lower pick, we never seem to get the top ones quite right.

Those questions might be better suited to the team that we trade an injury prone "star" for that pick.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
