Although we lost the game Gawny was a winner andĀ  wasn't concentrating on kicking for goal. However he was thinking of beingĀ Ā All AustralianĀ  RuckmanĀ  for the third time after wiping Grundy's censored.

Wouldn’t be a bad idea to run with Shanks for his next food truck venture.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting Max’s kicking is our biggest issue. But itĀ is just such an obvious flaw, I am shocked it is still happening.

Regardless, he was huge on Monday. I shudder to think what would have happened without him.

The kicking of nearly all of our players is an issue for us.

Ā

I think since 666,Ā  there is a bit more run and carry happening,Ā  and more space opens up,Ā  than last year...Ā  so kicking on both sides of the body,Ā  IMO is a must once again.Ā

Ā

I think one-sided kicking was enough since the flood entered the AFL terminology...Ā Ā

But now its time for disposing of the Pill,Ā  on either side of the body.

Ā

We have to work on this again now.Ā  And IF Viney's foot is stuffed... then he MUST learn to kick right-sided.

Ā

Same with one-sided Petracca...

.

I love Max, but have an idea.....How about never have a shot at goal from near the 50m arc?

Someone throw in a block, Max handballs to a smaller mobile half forward or a mid fielder, they then have a shot on goal. Most other clubs do it.....

Ruckmen should never be having shots from the 50 m arc with a game in the balance, or am I talking [censored]?

Multiple AA's yet still can't be relied on 20 metres out aaand still shanks them left.

At least he's consistent.

I wish someone could explain why he just doesn’t aim at the right goal post from close in and to the right of it when further out.

This has been going on for years and is nothing less than a joke, from a great player and allegedly professional sporting club to not correct his goal kicking.

Here is a thought maybe just run in over the man on the mark it's a proven goal kicking technique.

It’s like a golfer who constantly slices - they’ll aim further Left (RH golfer) to compensate and the sub consciously realise they need to leave the face open otherwise it’s going way left and the issue is compounded.

The flaw is the technique. For Max run straight at the man and kick over him.

There is an argument to be had that his height of ball drop probably doesn’t compensate for the rotation of the earth (sorry flat earth era) hence the shankery we see.

He's a shocking kick, but he still kicked the most important one down at the Cattery. Thanks Big Maxy!

Yeah been there, done that

It's like having a rattlesnake in your back pocket!

As for Gawny ... his kicks for goal are like the draw shot in golf so why doesn't he just aim at the right hand goal post (or just outside it)

A golf slice is easily fixed

Lessons

My golf coach from ages ago told me that learning golf is kinda backwards. You start perfecting technique from the green back.

Yeah I had a slice that turned wicked when starting further left, he taught me to set up right and now I have a draw…………though he started shaking his head when I walked up to putt with a driver in my hands.

Interesting

Could have a few beers - or soda waters - about that

Disagree

But I’m not a coach

Yes, eventually I reconstructed my swing and got rid of the slice ... but I'm still a mug golfer!!

For a good laugh have a look at Robin Williams take on the sport on youtube

Will do

I know from 35 years of playing it’s a horrible horrible game.

That and the 96 masters. And the 2008 open. And the rest

Let me know if you’re up Byron way for a hit

I'm 68 years old & haven't kicked a footy in 10 years yet I would back myself against Max in taking 10 set shots for goal 20m out at 45 deg.

Is it possible that he has actually got chewy on his boot?

So funny that at just a couple of absolutely crucial moments for our club he became goal-kicking champion.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
