Marty Hore and Jay Lockhart

When May, Lever and Jetta return, it will free up Frost and Hunt for the wings. Open space to run and long kicks to attack.

Rotate through the wings with TMac & Weideman to offer variety in size and marking ability as well as run.

Tracca needs a chill pill and to be instructed to hold the ball after a mark to take the time to make good choices and to set up his kicking.

There is no rush to win.

Turbo McTreacle must be worried if all these moves come of!

Lockhart has been a professional footballer for no more than a month or two. In each of his previous games, he was fading out quickly after a lively start, but he put together 4 quarters on the weekend and was vital. I think he will continue to improve.

Hore's disposal on the weekend was concerning, but love his intercept marking, which is as important a trait as you can get in today's game.

The little I've seen of Lockhart so far he could be something, shows a bit.

This was the first game where Lockhart didn’t have any holding the ball frees paid against him (or any frees against at all) on top his highest possession game. He’s definitely getting used to the pace of the game now.

I was surprised they dropped Hore after round one. He’s been fantastic and exactly the type of player we need with Lever out.

I was surprised Lockhart has come in off a VFL preseason and has had the impact he has. Looking forward to him for the rest of the year. Should build confidence after the weekend.

He was dropped because May came in.

Has done a terrific job since coming back in.  Deserves to stay when other defenders return.

Anyone know if Lockhart is indigenous?

He’s from Tassie, so probably not... ? at least not directly.

No doubt he was replaced by May. But we lacked an interceptor.

A feel good story about Lockhart's path to AFL:  From Docks to Dees

He has missed only 2 games since debut due to injury.  Last line of the article sums it up very well:  He won’t be back on the docks any time soon".

It seems he has taken ANB's spot in the team, having been selected ahead of him several times.  Will be interesting to see who goes out when Hannan comes back.  Given the huge wrap Hibberd gave Lockhart for being 'hard as nails and one of the toughest guys he's met in footy', I doubt it will be Lockhart.

When lever comes back in a couple of weeks it will be interesting to see what happens to Hore.  they play similar roles.

Lever, Frost, Hore and Hibbo in the same back 6?  could work

Steady mobility rather than pace but runs in possession to space. That's how I see Hore. He reminds me of Brett Lovett at about the same body size, but a better mark in the congestion of the field, these days. Not quite ready for direct comparison with Brett but definitely getting there. Thus, he may well be Mr Reliable, too.

It’s always a compelling narrative to see players who work bloody hard for their opportunity, and then seize their chance.

Lockhart and Hore play like they know what a big deal it really is, and you can just see how grateful they are for the opportunity, and how much they respect it.

I really like both of these guys. They definitely add value to the squad.

Exactly why  Petracca needs a rest with Casey, imo.

Wonderful goal that really capped Hore’s rapid improvement in disposal since round 1. Sticking his tackles too. Well done.

Lockhart just does some real footballer things - holds some good marks, bursts from packs, reads the bouce of the ball. A bit down from last week and he has to hit more targets to do more damage but he’s such a change from the rest of our battlers who usually get the half forward jobs.

He's got a bit of  'Go',  in him.

Indeed. Scores were level and with 49 seconds to go. At the centre ball-up Max's double effort sent us forward, Viney bustled a trademark tough clearance inside 50, a brilliant ground ball get from Hunt and his pinpoint handball to Hore who had found space running toward goal and his sublime composure in the "moment of truth" as he steadied and kicked a classic sausage roll from 50 - a sight to behold! With 18 seconds to go he had put us level with GC and given us a slim chance of winning. Which we did. What Marty did cannot be over-adulated. It should be remembered especially by Demons for the ages. His goal was a watershed moment. Not just in the game but in the season...

Battlers by my intentions was players not versed with natural skills but they battle on.  Big hearts.  Battle on.  Key going despite adversity.  Neither are naturally gifted.

Petracca and a few more could learn from them about the struggle to realise your dream and then finally have it.   I was a fan of them both as VFL Players.  So DD LOL you caveman.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
