I know i am showing my age, but I honestly cannot listen to TV Commentary of AFL anymore. Mike was never like that. 

It was Serious Theatre to Mike and he helped turn the game into something YOU DID NOT MISS on Saturday Night

We would go out AFTER Football Inquest and the Replay. Not before.

Mike and Mary Hardy on 'The Penthouse Club' tv show every Saturday were hilarious. RIP Mike.

Lou and Peter Landy were very good, who both called the games as they saw it, Mike was the first one who brought the game into the loungeroom...

He actually lived diagonal to me over the back in East Bentleigh when I was a Kid. Always said Gday!

I remember the classic commentary team of Mike, Alan "Butch" Gale and Teddy Whitten bringing classic commentary into our lounge rooms. Also will never forget the best Footy show Footy Inquest

Mike's sign of was always

"We'll see you on 7,  at 7, 7 days from now!! Goodnight!

While I don't share your sentiment on the quality of his commentary he was clearly a trail blazer, a very nice man, and he's left a lasting legacy.

He was better than Peter Landy, who I thought was the pits, so we all see things differently. ?

Changed his style dramatically. In 1963 was a Debonair, understated commentator.

R.I.P. Mike.  My first early memories/impressions of watching the game always return hearing these three immortals call the big finals around this time, dad (& mum) being huge Barassi/Melbourne/Carlton fans.

As SW has said, they brought the game into our lounge rooms and made the characters seem larger than life.  Thanks for the amazing memories Mike...

Of the current bunch, I do like Hudson. He’s a fan of the game who is genuinely excited by what’s going on on the field.  His call on Buddy’s 13 goals will be around longer than him... just like Williamson’s call of Jezza’s mark.

Williamson’s Football Inquest was a must watch in our household as well.

I was at the ‘70 Grand Final. 

7 years old and the noise of 121,000 people i can still hear.

Hudson is ok, he does have the passion, it’s just a pity he yells so hard.
