PREGAME: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn

Recommended Posts

Team is announced in a few hours!

So its time to switch from all the repetitive, negative comments and threads that have recently saturated this board.

New game, new opportunity.

Go Dees!

Go Dees! I’m feeling positive about this one. I think we should beat the Hawks in the middle of the ground. The key is converting inside 50s into scores. Someone needs to kick a bag and I’m tipping this is TMacs week

We need experience in our young players; time for them to come into the side in larger numbers - this is a rebuild.

Agree we need to expose some kids, disagree it is a rebuild. We lack good depth and have been unable to cover our injured players and those out of form

You are correct but this process is surely a key part of younger player readiness and hence, a key part of the rebuild. Match-ready players by the bucket load.

Agree, now is the time to do it but with a balanced selection policy. Sparrow should come in and I’d like to see Kielty get a game to see what he can do. I know Tim Smith was ok last week but he is not young and therefore, not the future. Kielty should have been picked ahead of him in my opinion. Not sure Garlett deserves another game. Despite the fact he can produce goals he was very poor last week

I would like to see a team selected that can win.  In part to get some optimism back and in part to get the monkey off our back for a while.  We can all see the effort is being made.

Plenty of time later in the year to 'play the kids' and it will be a lot better for them and their confidence coming into a winning team than one with a string of losses behind it.

Your first para is the $64 one LH , I think at present we don't have the players to achieve a win no matter who you pick. Any suggestions on who they might be?

second para it is surely more liable to be 2020, Why will the second half be a winning team?

I know there have been exceptions, but Goodwin usually gives a player two games after a promotion from the VFL before dropping them again. I agree that Garlett wasn't that good last week, but perhaps a second outing will see an improved output. (I also think that if he's having a quiet day, the coach should have him as part of the four in the centre at a ball up a couple of times. It helps him get involved.)

Its a yo-yo type of season so on any given day I reckon any team can win.  So my pref is minimum changes giving us a better chance of the team 'clicking'.  I really believe we are not far from things 'clicking' for us and getting a couple of wins.

?I can't process the possibility that we won't be a winning team in the second half of the year?.  But we won't make finals so then is the time to experiment with kids, next year's list and a changed game plan.  We will win a few (about 10) games this year.

I have a good feeling about this week which is pretty much all I'm hanging my hat on. The only other time I've had a good feeling going into the game was against Sydney so we shall see if my spidey senses can go 2 from 2.

They did this in Garlett's MFC debut Vs Gold Coast in 2015 and it provided good results. Then they barely bothered with it again.

Weideman to the Magoos.

Bring in Keilty who deserves just as much of a chance as Weideman quite frankly.

Just because Sam was a high draft pick and played two solid games out of 26 showings means f’ all imv.

Declan is showing a better rate of improvement and must be given a chance this weekend.

No changes except injuries please. We need continuity desperately right now.

Disagree sending the weed to Casey. He's at the point of his career now where he needs to be accumulating game time in the AFL, not going back to the VFL and coming back with a false sense of security having played a good game or two in the 2's. He's learned everything he can in the VFL already. Stick fat, he has all the attributes, he just needs more and more games. Hell, some decent i50 entries probably wouldn't hurt either? He is a beautiful set shot on goal, I reckon we focus on having him laced out by our mids/wingers a few times rather than lamenting his bad form when he's only getting delivered pure chaos ball. He will start hitting the scoreboard when this happens.

Get behind him, if only that there is really no other hope for his type on our list.

Could he be worse it is difficult to believe.

I hope it doesn't rain or be a wet game otherwise it might be a replay of round 4 last year. I still have rude flashbacks of O'Meara running past every Melbourne player on the field to kick a soccer goal.

Forecast says it may rain in a bit in the morning, but hoping it holds out until Sunday.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

After a very wasteful first half of footy the Demons ended up cruising to a clinical victory over the Saints by 38 points at the MCG and ultimately reclaimed a coveted spot in the Top 4.

It's Game Day and after 2 losses on the trot the Dees must win against the Saints today at the MCG to keep in touch with the Top 4. A loss today will see them drop out of the Top 8 for the first time since 2020.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
