Two goals five points in 3 quarters, turn that around to 5 goals 2    There is half your defensive problems fixed. Easy to say I know. And still not all the solution but scoring pressure eases supporter concerns. You don’t need 20 goals or more a match. 4 a quarter hell even 3 a quarter will keep the opposition honest these days.  Not many big scores. Only against us !

i am starting to think we might beat Hawthorn we have a good break they have a short one. Come on demons. Make it happen . Hope Carlton become brick walls and the hawks have a hard game,

Go Dees!!

Again.. its all talk.. its all been talk the last couple years.. Max is great, but he talks a lot.. he tells us the prelim final loss is going to burn in the players.. we come out lose r1..we are 1-5 now he says judge us on how they respond.

Why in the hell should we believe and trust words. its rather pathetic.

I disagree with the notion that he's damned if he stays quiet or damned if he says something.

I've been saying for a while now, STFU, Max. Stop banging on in the media.

He's not damned if he doesn't write an article in the Herald Sun. FCS, he doesn't have to write anything! Focus on getting better, not writing bloody articles.

Didn't he go back and take 3 defensive marks when the game was on in the 3rd. Showed leadership and passion.

Melbourne FC are [censored]. Would rather listen to Gawn than "after the siren" Mr.Goodwin.

The two are not mutually exclusive.

I recall one mark. He may have taken more. But I recall him turning it over by foot twice coming out of defence.

Still taps to dangerous areas in our defensive 50 too often, IMO.

Of course, but it's not a good look and to me, he doesn't need to say anything. We need to get better on the field.

Pretty sure it was at least 2 within minutes. I am fairly drunk by the second half these days though.

Not sure they are hurting all that bad, if I was as bad at my job as some of them are I wouldn’t have a job with weeks. Yet they continue to earn excellent money regardless of whether they win/loose/draw.

Interesting article written by Max

But my only concern is that he had to say it 2 weeks after the club had a “sit down tell all truth” session to reset the mind

i know people inside the club care, but how much do they care? not enough i say.

We cannot waste this year, we cannot write it off, we need to fight against the odds, again and again.

Last September told us we are not up to it, 7 months later we are still questioning that.

Back to the Bare Bones Coach, work from the bottom up this week

fight for your job, if you really want it.

He gets paid to write. He has to write something!

Agree. Same applies to the Coach, support coaches and the CEO.

Yes, produce copy.

Unfortunately SWYL, apart from making supporters feel better, the next week or so are irrelevant.

We have [censored] ourselves for 2019.

Doesn't have to write about his own club.

Plenty of other football topics to write about.

Max is working on lifting his profile for post football and current outside of football activities.

Maybe he could write some Bob Murphy style articles about the game but in his own quirky manner.

Agree, he needs to STFU about us...

I'm sick of hearing from players and coaches of the MFC...

He and Salem are the only two players that haven't gone backwards this season so far. He can say and write what he likes as long as he keeps playing good footy.  Thus far he isn't the reason why we are so [censored]. If everybody else was dominating their position the way he does we'd be exactly where we all hoped we'd be.

You’ve seen how fast lies spread in the footy world. “They turned up unfit” and “they drank their own bathwater” is circulating about our players at a furious pace, even on this forum where we’re supposed to be on their side. I think he has every right to respond with a rebuttal. Yes, obviously we would all prefer the club responded by hitting the magic “get good at footy” switch again instead of talking (nobody moreso than Max I reckon), but of course since that doesn’t exist, he is allowed to defend himself.

Every right to defend himself, mate, but I just disagree he needs to defend himself.

Who said this...?

Have you ever criticized a player,  who wears our Red'n'Blue jumper, Nash ?

Have you ever been on a players case,  who was on our list...  and you didn't like that they were.

Common now,  this is footy, and its always been this way.

Do you not think that Daimond Jim Tilbrook copped a lot of flak from Melbournefc fans,  Do you think that Fabulous Phil Carmen copped any flak from fans?

Do you think that Big Carl copped much flak ?

I've heard Melbourne fans rippingg into Rodney Grinter for being too rough.

Kelvin Templeton copped flak.

It comes with the territory,  and especially these days of Pro footy... and that little yellow envelope,  they take their Salary home in.

Or have today's Footy Players become different mentally...  to those of the past, in some way ?.

Like everyone I have been hurting this season, seeing the boys lose again and again. But I have moved through the cycle to the acceptance stage where I realise maybe just maybe I over estimated the boys. When you look at their form last season you realise we were not consistent. Sure we had a run of 6 games in the middle of the season but this was followed by 3 losses in a row. We didn't string 3 wins in row until we hit the finals where we got to 4 wins and then had a shocker in the prelim. So I still believe we can turn it around but we need to be more consistent. Sure it will take some luck but as some sage person once wrote..... So come on boys lets go!

Honestly some of the tripe I read on here makes me squirm. Players HAVE to be available to the media these days . To not do so would be economically negligent and the same ones pulling max apart here would be going nuts about how we don’t promote our club... in good and bad times. we, as a club, are lucky that Maxxy is well loved in the football world in general and given a regular voice. It gives us an industry  respected spokesman and face for young supporters to relate to. We haven’t had a lot of them in recent times. He needs to speak up... the fans in general need to stay engaged. Our footy sucks and yes, we would all rather engage fans w winning but it isn’t happening now. Max disappearing from the media wouldn’t help anything one bit. It’s footy in the 21 century. No club can close their doors to the media anymore.

Im as angry , deeply disappointed, numb  and shocked as the next person here.  Looking for answers , wondering where everything is breaking down and why. But attacking max fr writing this article has produced some of the most inane comments I’ve read here for years.

That’ll do for a definition of mental fragility for me. What’s yours?

Grand Final in 2000 to 11th in 2001.

Then Danihers yo-yo years.
And throw in the numerous individual games that should have been won as favourites ..... But were lost.

Same 5hit, different year.

We don't have a get good at footy switch.
But we sure have a get bad at footy switch.
Supporters have a right to be pizzed.
This embarrassing garbage gets delt to us far to often.
Had a collingwood clown in my face this morning having a good 'ol laugh at our expense.
Just told him to "FO" as I've got no comback.

I honestly hate the "drank their own bathwater" comments. It implies that each individual in the entire team has that mindset when that just simply can't be true. I can accept that a few might have that mindset/attitude but to say that every individual has a shared mindset of arrogance is just absurd.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
