Strange fixture.....men against boys... what can go wrong?

The Preuss lacerated Jye Caldwell's kidney last year in the same fixture.

I would've thought it would make more sense to distribute each of these kids in to different VFL games so they could play as the 22nd/23rd men in flanker type roles that kept them away from the hot stuff, but this is a good test for them.

In that game last year the under 18 academy side thrashed North Melbourne.

It seems that they’ve given a few of the younger brigade in Sparrow, Bedford and Chandler some time off. Jay Lockhart, the resting emergency. No Maynard.

A few others can expect limited game time in case they’re required on Anzac Eve.

AS WJ says it's probably designed to give the young bodies a rest but it would have been good to see them in a free flowing game.

Not sure what it is about the VFL comp but it seems to involve a lot more packs. Perhaps it just looks that way when you watch the game from boundary level.

Managing the list for Wed?

I reckon Sparrow will be an 'In',  against the Tiges....    and maybe another small defender  'in',  as well ?   we need more speed against Richmond.  and Preuss in to stretch the Tigers tall backs.

I don't think Sparrow is anywhere near ready for senior "recall"

Well, we'll know by Monday,  I reckon.

hey guys, is there anyone in the under 18s we should be looking out for our first pick? we have our first round pick this year I'm pretty sure so that could fall anywhere from pick 8 to pick 12 as s personal guesstimate

So if Pruess doesn’t get up then Lockhart comes in???! Must be pretty sure big P is right to go!!

Keilty only playing half the game as he is an emergency for this arvo

It is not as though Bedford or Chandler are likely to be surprise inclusions! Sparrow maybe? ?

This must mean Preuss is playing then.  No way would Keilty be playing a second of the curtain raiser if Preuss was under a cloud or out.

Unless O Mac comes in for Preuss, which would not make much sense.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #31 Bayley Fritsch

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
