Tom McDonald is by far our best media speaker when it come these kind of interviews.  Love listening to Tmac.

Tom is a breath of fresh air really

Intelligent well considered and articulate responses to a series of questions

No pathetic cliches, no umms or ahhs

Well done TMac deserves every success and I hope it comes his way

Yep and future coaching material also.

Our best leader. Been saying it for a year. But of course once you pick a favourite, you back yourself.

I usually dislike preseason interviews but that was great. Speaks very well. Isn't afraid to voice his opinion. Doesnt stick to the cliches.

Unlike Viney, no “yeah the boys... etc”

Very impressive young man. Can actually put full sentences together without the awful 'yeah, no". Great speaker and communicator. No secret he is one of my favourites. Will look even more handsome with a shiny Grand Final medal around his neck, as I mentioned in the discussion about Riewoldt's unnecessary "Top Ten Forwards 2019".

Tom moving to the forward line has become more confident with his on / off field demeanor which is exceptional.

The 666 will help him in beating any opponent deep in the square one on one and awfully hard to beat in the air especially with his jump mark tactics.  Is crucial to our cause and IMO he is about cherry ripe to put in his best season and the new rules will help immensely.

With a little luck the Coleman medal could be around his neck.

Has future coach written all over him. If he lead, I'd follow.

Interesting that TMac is not in the Leadership Group but fronts the Media for the team.

He is a natural at it. I wonder if it is part of his contract?

I love his media appearances. Unlike other Melbourne players, he doesn't start every sentence with the word "obviously" which pleases me.

It makes sense to me. Whilst I enjoy Jack Viney's leadership on the track, I think he is pretty average in front of a camera. And by pretty average I actually mean quite poor. With all due respect, he doesn't have the tools to be able to reflect on questions and answer them meaningfully without repeating the same old cliches like a broken record. Tmac on the other hand is extremely well spoken, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him follow the post-career media personality route as many before him in recent history.

Re: him not being leadership group, I think it would have come down to him or Nev. Both were excellent and deserving options.

Obviously he’s given that some thought

I prefer the updated version of obviously, which is 'essentially'.

He articulates the questions well, remains topical and discreet. He has long been our best spokesperson. There is no clowning around or cluttered chatter. Great Captain material from the spoken language point of view.

Also knows where everyone is at fitness wise, very impressive. Must admit he is also one of my Faves...!!!

What an amazing recovery?

A week ago, T Mac was ruled out of football’s biggest extravaganza outside of the grand final. Now, he’s back in town.

They should bottle the amazing recuperative powers of AFLX.

With a little more luck and more continued excellence on the field fromTom and all the others they could really have the thrill of a premiership medallion around their neck.

Really nice to get honest, personal answers to the questions asked, instead of simply toeing  the party line  or regurgitating tired old cliches.

i think he will be in demand all season, not only on the field, but also off as well. If i were a journalist, i certainly know which player I'd be seeking out for comment.

Thank God he is a gun footballer because he is a very poor and cringeworthy media performer.

AFL 360 should boot Lewis off and replace him with TMac.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
