Maximum Bob here. My display name is taken from one of America's finest crime writers -  Elmore Leonard. His 1991 novel features Judge Bob Gibbs aka Maximum Bob, so named because his sentences were so harsh.

Many Demonlanders have display names that are pretty obvious in origin but I've often wondered how some of the more esoteric originated or what they refer to.

Feel free.

Warner Brothers Cartoons

Series 1 of “the Simpsons” used it as well. When the Family was ultra violent to each other.

When the Simpson’s became PC i knew life as we knew it was over!! :)

I’m quite proud of my display pic. It’s what should have been in 2000. I got it from a friend who got it from someone at the Herald Sun.

I was there too!

In all honesty I picked my stage name before I realized that such direct reference to former players wasn't exactly the done thing on Demonland.

But that all said, this bloke was pretty much my favorite player as a kid and an absolute bloody legend of the MFC, so I'm sticking to it.

P.S. since I'm sure you're all interested, this is the full image of that I used for my profile pic.  Rodney in full flight and proudly displaying that famous No.14, subsequently proudly worn by a number of other tough high quality backman at the MFC continuing the legacy.

not quite as obvious as it sounds .... blew the head gasket on my first car - a 1976 Corolla, by trying to catch and follow a certain bogan cult figure of the early-mid 90's whose number plate read JAKO13 while driving along the wonderful dump of the then South Eastern Arterial... was stoked at the time to see him - got the old [censored] heap of a car to 130 clicks.... and it died

I had just returned from a Qld holiday when I signed up to demonland and I thought Queensland ... pineapples... why not ' Pineapple dee ' ?  Plus my wife thinks I'm a bit of a pineapple.  And how does that old expression go ?

"The answer is a pineapple "

During a heavy day with the lads at a pub early 2000's I was watching one of Troy Broadbridge's early awkward games and after a surprising piece of play yelled at the TV "go you big red fire engine". I followed him with curiosity during his early time at Sandy and across his 40 games for the MFC. I joined this site the year after his passing and it just felt right at the time as a reminder that there is so much more than football.

Some of my friends (and quite likely some not so friendly observers at matches) seem to believe, for some very strange reason, that I am just a little one eyed about the amazing mighty Demons.

And it was not until a while after I registered that it was pointed out, interestingly by an optometrist, that I couldn’t spell?

Just a play on the movie of the same name and our wonderful number 3.  He hopefully will be a horror show for his opponents again this year

Oh, and that photo is my dog Berkeley, a one eyed paid up pet member

Coincidentally a double acronym:

  • This is Melbourne (in English)
  • Want a Flag (in Transylvanian).

Obvious, really.

So are you still one-eyed and with us in the flesh Mono ? ...

or are you communicating to us, from the other side of that bright lite  ?  ?

Mine started of when I was rudely called a name by another poster, (started with the letters) 'de"...

So I started to think about avatar names and images, and thought I would mispell the word as an Avatar name.  And so started off the 'Dee' prefix on Demonland...

I was also the author of the "Dees"... back in the mid 90's against the Blues at the 'G'.    "Go Dees".  Schwarta tore the blues a new hole in that 2nd half,  to cut them up.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
