I don't know why the media keep harping on this:

Given the dominance of Gawn, it was strange that North Melbourne back up ruckman Braydon Preuss was so keen to get to the Demons. Even more so given Kangaroos big man Todd Goldstein is in the twilight of his career, while Gawn has years ahead of him. Preuss has put it on the record that he believes he and Gawn can play in the same team, just like the Eagles premiership duo of Scott Lycett and Nathan Vardy did in 2018. But if it ain’t broke, why fix it?

I simply cannot wait til the Gawn/Preuss tag team shuts these clowns up.

Pre-season training not much to go by but it's helped to dampen my own initial mild confusion as to Preuss's motivations. Seems keen as mustard to push himself to be part of a successful mix and is being treated as an genuine element of such.

West Coast adding Gaff, Collingwood adding Beams, Richmond adding Lynch and a fit D. Martin. Even Hawthorn with Scully, Wingard and a fit O'Meara are far better than their semi-final lineup. We might have an enviable list esp in regards to "the future" - which can just as easily be derailed with an injury or trade request, but there are 3 clubs right there that played better than anything we served up last year and so we have our work cut out to match and surpass them. We're really only the envy of the teams still stuck in the rebuild.

Next year could be a great year of footy for the neutral with a bunch of teams contending.

I just don't like their version of our best lineup.  For a start I'd have Frost filling the third tall defender spot over Oscar.  Also, with the need for pace on the outside I'm not sure that Jones is still first choice in the midfield mix.  He could well be coming off the bench.  For that matter, Lewis could well struggle to get into the side at all. 

Still, it's very nice to see such positive coverage of the team.

If it ain’t broke, why fix it? Please. What about the dees can't afford for it to break in the first instance.

Losing Gawn to injury (god forbid), even for short periods is the single biggest risk for us in term of our chances of going deep into the finals. I would say no single player in the league is more important to their team. 

I know he is referencing the idea of Preuss and Gawn playing in the same side but i have no doubt they will, not all season, but strategically through the season. Sometimes because of match ups but other times just to lessen the incredible load Max carries and give him some well earned chop outs - particularly mid season. I can even see the Dees resting Gawn mid season around the bye period (perhaps an interstate game?) to give him a chance to rest.

And of course if Max does get injured we have some insurance. 

And on his choice to come to the dees, why wouldn't Preuss want to got to genuine premiership contender?

We must also remember that the Gawn and Pruesse tag-team is one hellava lot better than that of the WC Lycett and Vardy combination so imagine how those MFC two are going to lift the games and possessions of the likes of our other great players who feed off them and also, go in to get their own ball on most occasions! Then we have the Weed and Bradtke, and TMac as alternators to such set-ups.

The value of a 208cm forward target in a full on pressure final was shown by Cox when he wiped Richmond in the first half of the prelim, and Gawn is 5x better than Cox.  When forward Max can take big grabs, and with 10 or 11 goals enough to win a close GF a few goals from Max/Preuss when forward could be the difference.  Just having Max fresh in September will be huge.

I love that the footy department are just leaving nothing to chance, and don’t have the “ain’t broke don’t fix it mentality.”  Even if we win every game and the flag in 2019, we should still be looking to improve.

Will hold off on the Dees for Flag call but can see Tommy winning the Coleman.   

He kicked 48 goals from 17 H&A games, having missed the first five matches.  If he plays all 22 H&A games he can easily kick 60 - 70 goals and be in contention. 

65 - 70 goals has won the Coleman quite often in recent years.   Not having Hogan there may help him kick more especially as our fwd delivery to Tommy etal improves.

A bit of a smokey but Tommy is worth a few dollars to back him to win it!

Agree. Add to the above that we are a high scoring side and he takes his chances.

Should be favorite but won't be. So will be good value.

Absolutely agree re: TMac. I think I mentioned on the podcast this year that his average would have put him in contention for the Coleman this year if he had played every game (and obviously maintained the average).

What [censored] me about the article is that most if not all the predictions in this article are made to provoke a response on Social Media. They want people to scoff at the Dees for Premiers prediction, they want Hawks fans to jump up and down about being bottom 4, they want delusional Carlton fans to screech about how they will lose out in the live trade with Adelaide, they want Pies fans to be [censored] off about the Beams trade coming back to haunt them.

It [censored] me that they are probably only putting TMac up there for Coleman contention to provoke a reaction from Richmond supporters.

I guess I've just fallen into their trap. 

Youd probably have to go back to the 50s/60s to find a better Demon list.   A graders on every line.

Agree on the Weid and your namesake needs to also break out. Hoping Petracca can get to that next level. Him and the Weid along with proven performers up forward will create hell for the opposition.

It's the bold and in particular the underlined that I think is the biggest motivator for all parties as to why bring Preuss into the side.  I don't think that would have been a serious prospect for Preuss at North in the foreseeable future.  Limited risks otherwise for all players involved and I can only really see positives.
