Injury List - Season 2019

Featured Replies

Looking at the injury list one of the guys we have really missed imo is Mitch Hannan. Has speed, smarts and can play forward or roll up onto a wing. Wish he was closer to fitnessย

unfortunately, like eddie mcguire with his disparaging comments of anyone and everyone he deems 'below' him, may is a recidivist when it comes to a) not being fit and b) getting suspended

he's too small (height-wise) for modern forwards, many of who are lightning quick 200cm+ athletic freaks

may is no better / no worse than chip frawley

He's a better user of the body than chip is.ย ย  And I think has betterย  'vision'.ย ย  But is also more arrogant, and a sense ofย  'supreme'ย  about him...ย  This gets him into trouble.ย  Via suspensions... he tests people, including Umps.

ย

He is a bit like Rod Grinter,ย  in his belief of self and abilities.

Speculation.

I donโ€™t think it is speculation mate. He was clearly hobbling when they put him back on. The point is that there was nothing to be gained, and more to lose by putting him back on the ground. As I said, he is now out for up to 12 weeks. You donโ€™t think there is something wrong there???

I saw Smith undertaking a fitness test of sorts during the second quarter on the boundary line at Casey Fields. He could barely jog and looked terrible.

The club should've put a line through him then and there. Not good enough from the fitness department to allow him to return and not good enough from the coaching staff by notย exercisingย some caution/conservatism in a meaningless practice match. I know we had other injuries during the game but you ca't jeopardise the home and away season.

I thought we were over amateur hour at the MFC.ย

I have never been one to criticize this bloke, but happy to see Dave Misson out at the end if the year.

All this talk of Smith, you would think he was the 2nd coming of Hudson....

Yes the injury is a concern & I wish him a speedy recovery.

...but he struggled to find a position last season, he's really not the answer.

A full list & I don't know where you would play him...

By the way, does someone become immune from being included inย a bit of light criticism over their coin tossing ability when they lose their legs?ย ย

Yes. Criticising someone with a disability for their struggles to perform a task able bodied people take for granted is a pretty bloody low.ย

May - be not happening for a while...

?4-6 anyone ??? ???

If he came to us unfit, then no doubt that hasnโ€™t helped his groin.ย

So far I give him a 2/10. I really hope he comes good and proves his worth.ย

I think he can be a vital cog for us in defense, but if he canโ€™t get on the field and has poor conditioning at 27, we are in trouble.ย

I think he'll be OK after some adjustment. He has spent his whole adult career in a looser club mentality.ย  And has flourished as a player despite this.

He will learn imo to raise his standards higher with us.ย

just a long as others who are not in best condition are also made to do likewise.

Set the standards Melbourne leaders.

Jones'y...ย  I'm looking in your elite fitness direction,ย  matey..............ย  dee-man 'd ย  their ย  best

Cannot believe how unlucky and fragile are both Joel Smith and Vandenburg. ย

They have missed huge parts of the last 2 years. ย

When they play, they add a lot to our team. ย Vandenburgs strength adds grunt to our forward 50. ย Joel Smith adds versatility and ability to play forward or back. We need them back and fit.ย

Apparently not BBP.ย  ย Misson impossible?

We'd be mad to risk him. With the form he has been in we'd hardly notice him not playing.ย

He's looked slow all year TMac,ย  rest up and get it rightย

4-6 is likely you'd think - three to de-load, three to re-load

Don't you know the injury code?

3 weeks means 4-6

4-6 means we don't know but have to tell the fans something.

The only truthful one is out for the season.

Now that we've finally added McDonald to the injury list, when most people could tell he was struggling in round 1, when are we going to be honest about Jetta? The guy can barely move at the movement.

While on the subject of injury there was an interesting article in the Guardian about Mitchell Starc insuring himself against injury and missing the 2018 IPL season in India.

Makes you wonder whether it's worth the club insuring the top four or five players against season ending injuries.A good example would have been insuring Lever.

Premiums may have made it unattractive but I hope someone at least does the sums.

Footballing maths. I suspect you might really mean 4 of our best 22.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competitionโ€™s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
