Barring injuries from our preferred team, I'd be surprised to see Jeff Garlett out on the G again.

i wouldn't

of the nominal small forwards who played last weekend - garlett, spargo, and anb - i thought he offered the most

so with Hannan being out for a while, and now Garletts injury, who would be next in line as a goal sneak/small fwd option for us? Bedford, Chandler, or heaven help us, C.Wagner or JKH?

also can we still use our last draft pick* to get a player like that, or has the window shut on that option?

Cough.......................Cyril Rioli........................Cough!!!

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the performances in a praccie match played in Shepp in 38 plus degrees heat. Regardless, you underrate Spargo. What is he? 19/20? This year is his second year in the big league.  A very smart footy brain and mature beyond his years. ANB I have no issue with. Garlett is very secondary backup if he, at his mature age (for a footballer), ever gets his body right again. That's the ruthless way it is if we are serious about winning the flag...and about time.

I completely agree with you, fwiw, but I was still pleased to see Garlett’s attack on the ball and man - something that went missing for him big time in 2018

Spargo is a little ripper but still so young

yeah Spargo and ANB will play that role, but I want to know whos next in line if we have injuries/poor form to those guys.

Toby Bedford?

wouldnt surprise me if Bedford got a senior game this season...small forwards seems to be able to debut and have an impact at a young age, and from all reports he has a big bag of tricks

So read nothing into the performance of Oliver and Brayshaw?

Garlett kicked 40 odd goals the year before and yes he had a poor year last year, but until he hurt himself, he was in better form than both ANB and Spargo at Shepparton

So this appears to be our current injury list

Kade Kolodjashnij (adductor) 3-4 weeks
Jeff Garlett (shoulder) 4 - 6 weeks
Mitch Hannan (knee) 8 - 12 weeks
Jake Lever (knee) 12 - 16 weeks
Aaron Nietschke (knee) season

You can add Tim Smith to the list too.

Because of the change in the rules allowing recruitment of relatively recent retirees, you'd have to assume clubs are striking deals with their higher-quality retirees which commit those ex-players to agree to come back to the club they've just retired from, should they decide to play again. The equivalent of a "non-compete" clause as used today in business.

So, before we paid a fortune to send Lever to the US he was 3-4 weeks away, now he is 3-4 months away. Sounds like money well spent. Luckily I don't rate him as highly as most around here, because that is only one more hiccup away from being season over.

I'd also like to know what proportion of his time on our list has Tim Smith been fit. He seems to be good for a new injury every second months.

Fritsch came back on, JKH was walking in the rooms

And Harmes is playing Round 1. So, basically, we can just add JKH and possibly Preuss.

Has that been confirmed?

Came from Goodwin himself. I'm on my phone so I can't get the exact quote, but he said that the docs confirmed he won't miss Round 1.

Edit - @Redleg there is article on the MFC website about it.

Goodwin said he’d be fine

They showed Viney in the rooms at one stage - big limp on, but that might be his natural gait or he might’ve copped a corkie or what have you

As above, Jones said that Viney was a bit sore but had pulled up fine otherwise.

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
