I have not been impressed with him , I have watched him 4-5 times and every time thought he looked below AFL standard.

He might prove me wrong and come good but I am not that excited by the prospect of him joining us.

I remember him playing pretty well against us in the game we won... apart from that I dont really watch saints games.

Yes, I remembered he did quite well then. Also in the Saints draw against GWS (?), I think

A younger inconsistent small forward.

21 year old (only just), and has played 10 games.  Harsh criticism, but your views are appreciated.

I think he’d be a great get. Young and raw but he’s quick and has good skills and workrate and would be a huge upgrade on Garlett!

Not saying anything negative about Ben Long but that is a v v v big call - Whilst Jeff Garlett has had an underwhelming 2018 season he has an impressive record in the AFL having kicked over 300 goals

think they all may have played slightly above their demonstrated form that day

What I've seen of him hasn't impressed me much.  Doesn't really get a whole lot of it, not real tough in the contest.  It would be a bit of a head scratcher for me if we got him.

Saints just put a tweet out saying he's going nowhere, so it might be a bit of a non-starter this one.

Bunch of seriouse weirdo's running that twitter account.

The one they sent out last week was just plain bizarre.

Long is a gun. Would be a real handy pickup

A gun?

Struggled in most of his early games but his game against the Giants was fantastic and he did some things against us as well.

Has a bit of grunt in him as well as the Long/Rioli genes for pressure and tackling.

He'd be a very good pick up but clearly the Saints know his quality. Express some interest now and try to get him to remain uncontracted until next years trade period.

John Alexander's electorate in Sydney?

That would assume he was nicknamed Benne

Meanwhile, the Bombers have Jake Long out of contract. It's all well and good to use the emotional pull of family to poach one Long, how about signing up the other one? Very inconsistent.

We know Kent’s quality (and so do St Kilda) so a swap would not be to either Club’s detriment if Long is as good as they are trying to portray!

Have the Saints put a 13yo in charge of their SM? Idiots.

Everyone has their price.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
