WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KADE KOLODJASHNIJ

You seem to think pace is an issue with everyone.

Earlier in the year, AFL Tasmania high performance manager Matthew Armstrong spoke to Bound For Glory News and gave a glowing review to the best rebounding defender in the draft, Kade Kolodjashnij. He described him as an extremely hard worker mentioning he was “quick, shows leadership and has a great work ethic”.

Not really interested in quotes about 18 year olds who are better than the other kids. I don't care what the stop watch says if the guy can't run down players or burst through the lines and run with the ball.

Pies forward line tomorrow will feature De Goey, Stephenson, WHE, Josh Thomas, Varcoe. Eagles will have Ryan, Rioli, Cripps. Richmond obviously led the way with their smalls.

KK is perfectly quick enough to play half back in a role, or even play on a wing which is where he might be best suited - I haven't seen him play there so that's more of a projection based on attributes.

But Hibberd and Jetta are likely to slow down - Jetta might've already, Hunt might not be an AFL player, Wagner is below par speed for an AFL half back, DJ we aren't sure about. Joel Smith has excellent athleticism but isn't a skilled player likely to run with the ball. Frost is Frost.

Where's the half backs who can run with speedy forwards and really run and carry the ball out?

I certainly want KK for a reasonable price and think he could easily replace Lewis with some confidence. But an ageing Hibberd could be moved in to Lewis' role from 2020. Or possibly Nath Jones next year. Or Fritsch with a bit more defensive training and strength.

From a needs basis I think we need a linebreaking defender (which may be Hunt) and to recruit a future Hibberd (a quick excellent defensive player - which may be Smith). Certainly we need a wingman or two as well which is where he might fit in.

I like the guy. I want him if he's good value. But I don't think for a rebounding flanker type he's above the average speed for that position and that's a concern to me.

You clearly have no idea on his speed, which is very good.

There’s also a Kolodjashnij at Geelong. Which is the better player?

Twin brother, taken about 50 picks later, and nowhere near as good.

I don't see where the excitement comes from. He's significantly underperformed since entering the system, nothing excuses that (e.g. being a member of the G.C Suns).

Third round pick at best.

You mean that they are dizygotic in that each of them developed from a separate egg rather than monozygotic.

Yes, I think that's the case.

@ding and I are the mono thingy.

I got the goodness packed yolk, while he spawned from the white.

Poor buztard.

Because it would have been so easy as a young player in that team and system.

He's 23, played 70 games and about to enter his prime.

I like him, because I've seen him play.  Put him in a quality side and he could be one of the pick ups of the trade period.

If the price is right, definitely worth the punt. We’ve delisted five players already and may possibly lose AVB and most likely Kent, we can’t replace those 7 with ready made stars.

Seems to add more weight to the "Gaff is not coming" talk.

Like his run, height, and that sweet left foot.......

Has quality wingman written all over him. Isn't that what everyone has been sreaming for?

Players such as Jones would be looking over their shoulder if this bloke comes across fit and ready to go. Jones was a stopgap wingman at times. It's not his go.

He is a genuine talent when up and running. Jason Taylor was a huge wrap for him in his junior days and wanted him at pick 9. But you knew straight away that he was set on getting picked up early.

I like this interest from the club.

Had we held onto pick 2 in the 2013 draft, KK was just behind Billings on our rankings and would have well and truly been in the mix. We rated him pretty highly.

The other thing I like about him, and hasn’t been mentioned as much is he’s quite tall and good above his head, he has the potential to be a very good player and in my opinion has been poorly developed and mis managed

We both look like Danny Devito.

Agree. He could be a risk worth taking.

Pick 5 or 6, Garlett & future 3rd Round Pick for May, KK & rights to a VFL player (Lockhart please).

ummm, NO

Have you seen me lately?

Don't want him.  Go for Martin instead.

Why not, RM? It's like a poor script assessment.

"Don't like it." "Why?" "Don't like it."

All that is true why are GCS happy to let him go?

They need as much experience/talent as they can get.  If they aren't offering him a contract he will be delisted and he can anywhere he likes with no pick back of any sort.

It doesn't compute...

If GC FD doesn’t rate him and ours do, I know who I trust. This is the same list management that based an entire list off GAJ and has been a below average team it’s entire existence.

The kid was a potential star around his draft time and played some very good footy early.

He was drafted into a club where many ‘potential’ stars have failed to hit the heights whether it be through lack of development, poor culture or both.

Pending a ridiculous trade request and a medical, absolute no brainer.

im just putting it out there but i reckon he plays a bit soft. i dont wanna spend any more than a late 3rd rounder.

I've also seen him play and didn't think much of him. As for being a GC player, I don't see it as an excuse. Shiel, Treoloar, Adams, Greene, Swallow, Prestia, and O'Meara were all in similar if not the same position and excelled in their early years.

I do agree with your point regarding his age. I'm certainly not against targetting him. I'm just curious what you and everyone here considers reasonable payment?

We won’t take him at all if we think he's a bit soft.  No discount on trade price will make up for that.

2nd in the 2015 B&F and twice in the 22 best under 22 in his formative years after being a highly rated junior. Hard to say he did not excel early on its more about whether he can return to that and more.  HIs career stalled once concussion hit and being it is well touted how poor their culture player management and development has been seems like a player who could significantly improve into the player he looked like he would become with a hit of the reset button at another club.

Can play...he was really good early in his career.

Half back or wing with a bit of class.

Forget about the Kelly's of this world, this is exactly the type of trading we need to do.

Totally agree, this could be a genius move. I can see the media gushing over Jason Taylor and his team next season if it comes off.

Then either your assessment of football talent is always poor, often poor, or it's poor in this isolated moment.

I doubt it's the latter.
