Me too however it appears that is not going to happen.

So what is the best we can achieve from the move?

To honest I have little idea but you would hope we get as good a deal as Adelaide got for Lever.

The deal we get is Weideman playing the whole year, and not a hint of a winge. There i said it......

No deal he put in his best games in the last month of the season however he is still to prove he is a 22 game player in 2019.

? lollll.. nup, he said he loved my company, would buy me a house, that i could've made it in the afl and that we should go for a few surfs down the coast over the summer.. we then sat and smoked a pack of holiday 40's, listening to really modern JJJ dance music with lots of strobe lights

In olden time movies, this is where they cut to a train going into a tunnel and left the rest to your imagination.

I'll be at the Bluey courtesy of WJ, who had a spare ticket.

I am sure he will report any news to DL.

Let's face it,  the 2 year only extension was the 'tell' ... I felt like saying something here at the time but who needs an ongoing argument with half the site?  I reckon many were grateful that he'd decided to stay back then but 2 years down the track,  the landscape has changed.

Just like Tommy Mac’s two year deal was a tell?

No, Tom wanted to see how the club was heading, Goodwin was about to take over as head coach, like everyone else, he didn’t know exactly how things would go with yet another head coach.

even better.  :)

The biggest concern I have about our bullish attitude to the trade is a lot of people are already expecting Weideman to just step in a be a gun forward for us next year. I was really pleased by what he showed in the Cats game and parts of the Hawks game but he's still got a long way to go before we can hedge our bets on him.

The 2nd tall for TMAC...is far different than the number one spot ...he'll be right.

There's no pressure on Weid, he doesn't need to kick 50 straight up. 25-30 would be par, the rest around him can lift like Petracca and a full season out of TMAC plus whatever they have planned for that 2nd ruck. Weid 30, Trac an extra 10-15 and we're laughing. Mason Cox only kicked 25 goals in 24 games FFS.

No,  wasn't at all concerned with that 2 year deal for Tommy.  It is not one size fits all.  Different player and a different type and the circumstances are and were entirely different.

As it's turned out,  those people who were concerned about the 2 year only extension with Hogan look like they were rightfully concerned.

As I stated in an earlier post,  we are behind the times here in Oz but we're catching up ... big name players on big money need to be stitched up on long term deals so as to satisfy the clubs needs and the players needs.  And if the info is correct,  Hogan is on a reportedly $850k per year with us.  That is decent coin.

That sort of money would normally involve a longer deal especially for a player who was only 21 years old at the time.  At least 3 years but more like 4 or 5 years

Both 1 and 2 were shouted down about a month or 6 wks ago. Some children demanding the thread be closed, others claiming trade scenarios were a waste of time as he was 'settled'. The usual suspects telling us what we are allowed to think. There was some good discussion on what his value might be both on our list and as a trade.

I'd like him to stay, but understand now is a good time to maximize trade benefits if he is open to a move. He's a quality player, but we have the ability to significantly improve our list should he go. Doubt we'd get 2 x 1st rounders next year, certainly not when he becomes a FA.

The thing that sticks out most to me, is that the 2 main culprits who were so damn arrogant early in this thread are now trying to pass themselves off as a voice of reason regarding Jesses trade value, and carrying on like its no surprise to them.

What IS no surprise is that they are too bloody stubborn to put a hand up and say sorry to everyone whos intelligence they unnecessarily insulted.

If the trade happens, i await their response with interest.

You know this for sure?

Did Tom utter these words to anyone?

Weed was horrid in the prelim.

Who wasn't?

Let me see, a good outcome for the trade/draft period, given our present list situation for me would be the following:

Delist/retired - Vince

                              Balic

                              Pedersen

                              King

                              McKenna

                              Bugg

                              Filipovic

Free agency –    in - Gaff - would also like to have a crack at Lynch but that looks like a done deal to the Tiges

Trade in –           May and KK for a top 10 pick and a pick 2nd/3rd round (Note: if we do not land May do we look at Shiel and Finlayson from GWS to use our early draft position from the move of Hogan?)

                              Preuss – 2nd/3rd round?

Trade out –         Hogan - Get back two top 10 picks and cap space to accommodate Gaff and possibly one other ‘name’ recruit

                              Kent – Get back a 2nd/3rd round

AVB – not sure he will go but may get a 2nd/3rd round

So, already 7 out the door with 3 more (Hogan, Kent & AVB) possible. That is 10 spaces on the list that can be sorted out between the senior list and the rookie list as required. 4 coming back via the trades above but I suspect one more in addition to the above. That would leave 6 spaces with us holding a first round and a few 2nd and 3rd round selection.

This is going to be a very interesting draft/trade period for the Dees. Will be interesting to see the washup come the end of it all.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

The Dees ran another clinic for the second week in a row as they easily accounted for the Tigers in the lightning interrupted shortened match at Mars Stadium in Ballarat.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

  • GAMEDAY: Richmond

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
