Tom Browne had reported earlier today that Freo weren't that keen any more... Perhaps they pulled out, or going very hard as a negotiating tactic to see how desperately Melb want to push him out

Or maybe they are scared off by his navicular injury?    Its a real problem, though apparently it was caught early.

We may have to wait until next year to get May under free agency, in the absence of trading a seriously good player at this stage it can’t be done.

If it’s true this is fantastic news for our club. Teams build and grow and the  shine of early picks are great but I’d take s fit Jess Hogan over an 18 year old for where we are right now.

No doubt that's the underlying reason, along with Melbournes asking price and any other baggage he's perceived to be carrying

The backlash of losing Neale May have been too great for them.

I find this whole situation quite intriguing.

It started with unfounded rumours (e.g. Greg Denham), then progressed to the club itself failing to hose down the speculation, to everyone believing it was going to happen, to now there being question marks and even a "report" from Perth that he's staying.

I suppose all it says is that no one actually knew anything and we're all still none the wiser.

Oh, and Greg Denham remains a fool.

There are lots of subplots that we will never know. The pressure will be on for him to re-sign and fully commit to the club.

But how will we get to 300 now!

Sydney....

A bit like Buddy it was always Sydney not GWS.

Freo are the new GWS, Hogan is bound for Sydney.

...there you go 'sue', that should get the 300 easily.

Well I hope he is signing an extension if he is staying cause I don’t want to go through this crap all next year. The end of the season speculation is enough.

Listening to SEN & they have put the question out to all journalists across the country to confirm the story about hogan .. & so far no one knows anything. They can’t even reach Basil Zemplaris who originally reported the story.. Something is seriously fishy about this...

Maybe he met Ross Lyon on his tour and thinks, well gee, its a lot of money but...

I think basically Freo can't afford him without losing Neale.

If freo have pulled out I doubt hogan will go home anytime now, he may resign till he is free agent then chase $$$ anywhere

I can't believe I'm analysing a 5 second grab but the words "missed out" suggest the decision was Hogan's. The Perth media would have put a different slant on it (even in 5 seconds) if they'd cooled on the deal.

What good would an extension be? He is under contract now and it clearly didn’t make the trade speculation go away!

Even if the argument is there would be an extension would mean less chance of noise through the year, given this turn of events, I suspect there will forever be noise with Hogan until such time he does return to WA.

Jump on SEN 1116 now.

Cheers.

The Jesse news reached the UAE quickly, the Aussies have lost 7 wickets since that 5 second snipet broke.

SEN frantically putting calls out to Perth Media and getting no responses as yet.

I hope this is correct and staying. You don't want to lose a player like Hogan unless there is something wrong and we might not know that until early in the next season. We do not need to bend over for a player like May. He is not that good.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
