Felt a bit sorry for him on news yesterday at the airport.

Was asked if he had decided to leave us and he said no.

Was then asked the same question 5 different ways answering no every time.

Reporter wouldn't give up.

Reality of losing Jesse starts to sink in - like watching your ex-girlfriend (who dumped you) start dating her new man. The heart still hurts but the head generally prevails (most times).

I'm now concerned that with Freo likely having a closer eye toward the draft than us, they could deliberately bog us down in negotiations.

Don't be.  If they stuff us around we just don't trade Hogan and they miss out.  They have a lot more to lose than us.

reporter not very inventive - didn't think of instead asking if he had decided to stay.

I know this has been on the cards. But it makes me sad.

It is sad and more so, because we have totally supported and paid him during his issues and injuries.

But is is a job for him and whether it is influenced by money or family etc, it is his prerogative to decide in which state he works and lives.

That is the nature of footy today and we just need to get the best deal we can.

As I said in an earlier post, I regard him as an ex player now, as his leaving seems a formality provided a deal is done. He will move on and I already have.

Must say it made the reporter look stupid and pushy.

Honestly hes gone too far down the path, wouldnt want him back now

Touring the facilities is generally a sign that you're going to ask for a trade.  Outside of Dusty a few years back, have many other players gotten down the path of touring another club before re-signing?  I'm sure it has happened, but it wouldn't be a regular occurrence.

Sad to see him there, though.

Confident in the club and how they conduct themselves these days.. poor body language will be rife in Fremantle next year.

Will he tour the Eagles facilities tomorrow?

I hope so.

As much as I'd like him to stay, I'm glad another club will have to fix some of his frustrating (to the supporter) on-field behaviour.  Always looking for small mercies....

Not a good thing if your head is saying “get a bus... run him over!”

Ha ha

...Is it just me, or does this scenario seem perfectly set up for:

[Jesse Hogan is about to sign at the Dockers, he looks up, and a montage plays in his mind]

[Jesse smiles as he reminisces about the good times at the Dees]

[Jesse looks to the East...]

[Cue music, maybe some cliché 80s love song, or Al Green 'Let's Stay Together', for example]

[Jesse gets in his car, and drives cross country through the night, top down, hand tapping on the door]

[He arrives in Melbourne, parks the car hurriedly across a few parking spaces, runs across Gosch's Paddock]

[Jesse runs towards Goody and the boys, who are also running towards him]

[Group hug, tears etc. Goody tells Jesse he never doubted him for a second]

[Jesse re-signs for a bajillion years]

[We win 5 flags]

Lin Jong and possibly a heap of other lesser names in season who are fighting for contracts but not the big names post season.

The asking for a trade is an interesting point in all of this. I very much get the feeling Melbourne have asked Hogan to explore his options. He might be agreeing to a trade rather than asking for one.

Don't be surprised if Andrew Brayshaw comes into serious discussions.

Touring facilities doesn't actually mean anything, it's just a way for a club to impress potential targets. Hickey and Lobbe both did tours at the Eagles and only of them is joining as an example.

Yes this possibility crossed my mind as well. I haven’t followed all the media discussions closely enough but with Josh Mahoney saying that we couldn’t get May unless Hogan decides to go and Hogan supposedly only recently asking if a trade back home was possible this year and then hearing that the Club has spoken to May on two occasions already.....well something doesn’t seem to add up!

I think the club put it on Hogan to extend his contract past 2019 now and if he didn’t commit they decided to act.

Both of you are correct, and I'm certain that other players do tour facilities without it hitting the mainstream media.

It just feels as though Jesse has now crossed a 'boundary' so to speak, and there may not be any coming back from this.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
