Interesting. I wonder how the group feels about him leaving. You felt them all bond with the big wins this year and in the finals. Jesse not being there for them i wonder if they really care or if they feel upset he's leaving after all the hard years to get no reward together.

The knock on Jesse at this stage (and I think it’s a fair one) is that he’s shown a propensity so far to beat up on weaker teams and go missing a bit in the bigger games. This is something a casual look at his goals to games ratio doesn’t show up unless you take a closer look at the statistics. 

Im not saying he isn’t a very good player. He is. But a certainty to be a Carey-esque superstar? A “generational player”? Sorry but that’s a big stretch based on the body of work I’ve seen. Plenty of potential absolutely but more than a few rough edges remain that need ironing out. 

If you ask Hawthorn fans they'll tell you Buddy used to go missing in the big games too. He hasn't been great for Sydney either. Serviceable at times but not great.

I think you’ve been 10 minutes of wrong here. The guy is a talent that comes around maybe once in 5 drafts. His ability to be a key forward with strength but also cover territory and get up the ground is something that none of the under 25 KPF players can do nearly as well.

And yeah, this is a club who's only dominant period stemmed from the great Pav. They know they can sell memberships with the Hulk. He will be adored forever after 200 games with them. If he were to go there, their next 5-10 years look completely different. At MFC he's not even in our 3 most important (Gawn, Oliver, Tmac, Viney, Lever). If you want to see some extreme examples of the value of draft picks, consider the tale of RG3 in the NFL. The Redskins traded their first round pick in three successive drafts... AND a second rounder. And what for? To move from pick 5 overall to pick 2. They literally traded all that to move up 3 spots to get their guy. NFL is different obviously, but where they're way ahead of us is they make huge blockbuster deals to get a franchise player. They'd find a first and second round pick trade quaint...

In our defence, MOST people here are rating him. It's a small vocal minority that want everyone to think he's average. I'm confident the demons rate him as high as we do though.

Have to say though, as pretty as that was to read, the sentiment is wildly inaccurate. No amount of glorious words about his so-called loyalty can distract from what happens if he moves. In terms of sticking with the club, he's hardly Nathan Jones... He took a 2 year deal in his last contract, and has trotted out the same media line as Scully did before he left.

I hope you're right though of course.

I noticed someone else quoted this, so I went back to use it...

I keep coming back to this same thought...That the finals success, the team kicking out the coaches and running meetings with just themselves, all this... has left Jesse feeling like just another cog in this team and not its great spearhead as he's been for the last 4 years. Has he been waiting for an opening to sneak back to Perth? Maybe.

I think my main thought though is that the club had up until this week shown no interest in trading him whatsoever. They've loved him and nurtured him all the way through and bent over backwards to accommodate him. And now, with his injury and non-involvement in the first success the club's seen in a long time, he suddenly baulks?

A big part of me thinks if that's all it takes, then perhaps he's not made of the stern stuff we all hoped he would be? He's a great player and I want to keep him... but only if he buys in. And I mean REALLY buys in. Otherwise, what do we really have?

I could never be truly annoyed if he left after what he has been through this last 18 months.  He is a young bloke making hard decisions with a million people buzzing in his ears. It helps to know that we'll be handsomely compensated if he does leave. 

I hope he stays with us, because I love the sentiment in footy. But I also felt for Bernie when he missed games and the VFL premiership, was happy to cheer and celebrate Hibberd and Melksham, and I consider both Jeff White and Jeff Farmer MFC players despite their time at other clubs. 

Some players move because they have poor character. Others move despite their loyalty. 

I hope he gets success with us.

If he leaves this year it will be with be by mutual agreement. It’s possible for players to exit the club, or stay, without them “doing a Scully” or “doing a Jones”. 

If a deal is struck that suits both parties, you could argue he’s demonstrated loyalty by facilitating the trade.

True to a point, but I also think it would be the bitter taste of Scully that set the scene and lingers in tempting us to trade whist we have the capital.  Ironically we pretty much used the Scully compensation picks to get Jessy, so that pretty much highlights the futility of the situation should he leave to some extent.

I have been thinking that we could find out in the next little while, what matters more to Jessy - money or sucess.  That is a good outcome in it's self to some extent and in my view is that he needs to make this a clear turning point.  He can't continue to go on shopping himself around every time there is an opportunity to get back to WA or elsewhere, he will loose the respect of his teammates petty quickly and become corrosive to team cohesion if that's the way he continues to behave.

I could understand if he did leave for genuine family reasons, but I'd also struggle to believe that if he was moving on a hugely inflated contract.  IF he leaves for ridiculous money, then good riddance as I think that would mean he's not really the kind of player we want on our list going forward anyway.
