Draftees from outside the AFL system

Terry Wallace has revealed his top 10 players outside the AFL system who clubs should consider recruiting in this year’s draft. I think he erred in omitting Sam Collins of Werribee who I would rank ahead of anyone on this list.

Plough’s top 10 potential draftees outside the AFL system

Plough’s top 10 state level players (not in any order):

Mitch Grigg (Norwood/SANFL)
Shane McAdam (Sturt/SANFL)
Josh Clayton (Southport/NEAFL)
Michael Gibbons (Williamstown/VFL)
Ryan Gilmore (Townsville/Gold Coast Academy)
Josh Corbett (Werribee/VFL)
Sam Sturt (Peninsula Grammar/Victoria)
Jye Bolton (Claremont/WAFL)
Jordan Morrissey (County Carlow/Ireland)
Will Hayes (Footscary/VFL)

... and there are a couple of handy players at Casey who he has overlooked.

Poor again from Wallace.

AFL system ?? Will Hayes is in AFL System with Footscray/Bulldogs.

Michael Gibbons will not cut it at AFL level.

Josh Clayton has improved but not enough. Tyler Roos is as good if not better.

Further players from the SANFL/VFL/NEAFL/WAFL then

Sam Collins  Werribee vfl

Abe Davis South Adelaide sanfl

Marty Hore Collingwood vfl

Jay Lockhart  Casey vfl

Mitch Maguire  Canberra NEAFL

Chris Jansen. Kangas vfl

Blues and Suns to get priority access to state league players to select or trade before the draft.

Wtf.

Demons got no priority. Sure we lost S$cully and Frawley$ to get compo picks but not free priority access.

smells of bias and Suns “poor us syndrome”

That is quite an advantage.  We have recruited Vandenberg, Hannan, Fritsch and ? from State leagues paid for with draft picks.  All now multiple finals players - GCS and Carlton get the like for free.

TBH I don't mind GCS getting a helping hand but not Carlton - They tanked, have had a plethora of top draft picks, deliberately trade out their experienced talent, had mega favourable fixures (Home games at the G vs big crowds),  FTA favourtism, are poorly managed and are now asking for more handouts!!  Oh, I forgot - the AFL and Eddie want to make them 'great' again!

Why cant they just get more picks at the back end of the draft to pick up any nor selected?

After watching Mitch Grigg yesterday for Norwood he deserves another AFL lifeline.

The state leagues etc are not a pot of gold.

Leigh Matthews made the excellent point a few weeks back that there is not that much there that has not been thoroughly picked over in the draft saying look at Essendon who had the right to bring on whoever they wanted from the various leagues and how many played on the following year.

Sure there are the exceptions but picking those exceptions is still a lottery.

So what did GCS and Brisbane get as well as this?

Can sort of understand the Suns getting some help as theyre a new club and nobody wants to play there.  And their draft concessions were nowhere near as generous as what GWS got.

Carlton getting a helping hand is a disgrace.

I actually agree with something Chris Scott said for the first time ever. It’s a good idea, but to introduce it now after club recruiters have been studying these players for the last year is ridiculous.   criminal.

So bloody typical of Gillon and his henchmen making decisions on the run.

What a f'n disgrace are the current AFL leadership.

Okay. I couldn't work out why McGovern would choose to go there anyway. Maybe they were going to throw a shizen load of cash at him.

Note the Barrett story specifically stating that these priority access picks are tradeable. Why would they include that stipulation if it wasn't going to happen?

I have it on strong mail that Carlton will use that first choice to select Shane McAdam from Sturt. They'll then trade his rights to Adelaide for Mitch McGovern, with possibly some late pick swaps. He's this years Tim Kelly and valued at around 15-20. Gold Coast and several other clubs not happy they are missing him.

I think all these players should be free agents and bottom clubs should just use spare salary to sign them, or if not let them pick guys to get for free but not until after pick 30 or 40. As mentioned above we've given up draft picks for Hannan, Fritsch, Vanders, Wagner etc. I don't want to lose a chance at Jay Lockhart. Wouldn't mind Corey Wagner either as a rookie.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
