That 5 is low imo and for the reasons they mentioned: when Spargo gets the ball he adds value by improving our position.  His disposal is always to advantage which means with only afew touches he can have significant impact.  3 direct score assists is evidence of that, and he also was involved in another scoring chain,  mean 4 of 9 disposals were part of a score. Only 8 players had more score involvements than him, and they all had 15+ disposals (4 had 20+).

I think he'll stay because he creates.

He is class by foot Charlie.

Yep Jeffy X Factor just what you need in finals!

Jeff is exactly what you dont need in finals.   If its anything like his last game,  we will be playing a man down.

Can only suspect a change if an injury

Otherwise...it ain't broke......

No change to a winning formula! Lets belt these stuck up pr*cks!

Yeeeep we cannot carry Spargo as he doesn't kick goals.

Pity But Jeffy definitely needs to come in!

Lol

Why are people still not convinced with spargo? 3 assists and uses the ball very well. He does the little things right that obviously are going unnoticed. No changes for me unless injury/illness.

I don't underestimate them. I was looking at their weaknesses.

Hoping for a change of the guard.

They control the ball well.

Have good outside runners.

Good distribution of goal kickers.

Fast movers of the ball.

Good leg speed and endurance runners.

A tough team that can hurt their opposition.

Are well coached and can change their structures quickly and effectively.

Good front runners.

Can take a game apart and be ruthless.

Haven't seen any mention of Pedersen.

i would consider his older harder body more value than the lighter Spargo who is a beauty but can be rested for future.

Pedo can play forward or back to relieve Weds or Fritsch who are younger and lighter.

Whenever it feels like Spargo and Trac are having quiet games and not doing much, a watch of the replay shows they were involved in a bunch of creative plays that directly resulted in goals.

They consistently bamboozle their defenders with their positioning and footy smarts.  Amazing that Spargo is only 18.

Well said @Petraccattack Trac is extremely smart at reading what opponents will do with the ball before they know themselves. The set up for the Jones goal in the last quarter was a perfect example and even if we go back to the West Coast game he picked the pocket of an Eagle that set up Vanders’ goal in the second quarter. He’s a lot more involved than people realise.

I thought the score rating of 4 the AFL site gave him was harsh compared to Cox and De Goey receiving a 3 each. If Trac deserves a 4 Cox should have received -6.

I’m not having a dig at Kent at all. I’m just pointing out that his body is unreliable and it’s a big risk to take him into a final.

Didn’t think you were unfair to Kent really, but even that first hamstring I remember he was chasing harder than any player on the ground when he went down.

I just meant to say that he might breakdown, but it will be because he’s giving everything. And it’s clear Goody backs those players.

It’s remarkable we have almost an entire squad of players with this attitude. What an incredible turnaround over the past few years.

I like Spargo, but he's clearly the 22nd player and if there was a change he'd be the one who makes way.

Only change i would make would be JKH for Spargo.

JKH fits our hard tackling brand. Play that high half forward wing role and create alot of pressure around our forward 50.

Spargo did a couple of good things in tight traffic early showing he wasn't overawed for an 18 year old and remained composed in defence zone. The current lineup got the team into final - west coats game etc and all deserve to remain in barring injury. - Tyson included .

Spargo kicking goals is a bonus. His pressure is good and vision better than that. Was a great kick to Chompers for a goal in the first.

No change for mine.

How big of a loss is Ben Stratton for the Hawks?   I wonder who is a comparable player on our team if we were to lose them.

Huge loss! All Australian this year wasn't he?

They'll miss his leadership and direction down back, and his ability to lock down and shut down 2nd or 3rd dangerous forward.

Chip Frawley will have his word cut out..

I'm 45ish in age.  I'm running late for work.  I just picked up my boys soft 'inside' footy.  I turned, lowered my eyes, spotted a leading T-Mac coming up the passage way, defensive pressure made me go onto my left, I skewed it...hit my wife's newly potted succulent on her desk, the pot fell, hit her warm coffee, coffee spills, soil mixes in with this, on the macbook...as she is working at her desk she's not happy.  Said I'm worse than the kids, threw the ball at me...I caught it on the turn, I snapped right...GOAL!

The computer is [censored]!

And all under wife pressure. Which beats finals pressure any day.

These are the sacrifices that must be made if you want ultimate success!

Sure, Garlett gives X factor. About 1 time in 10. He'll go for the flashy low percentage miracle goal only to look up (literally) to see his oppo player in space running the ball the other way. In finals, no thanks.

100% agree.

The only change I would want is a goal sneak that can kick a bag. Part of me longs for the return of Jeff Garlett but his form this year except for the lions game has been way down. I recall him kicking 4 against Hawthorn 2 years ago and he has the ability to explode.

Dom was  very good prior to breaking his arm. Spargo although not a prolific possession player has been good with disposal and helped set up several goals. Unlike JG his chasing and pressure is his signature game. Alas JG hasnt had as much game time so all up I guess, no change for me. Perhaps Hannan will add 4. He has the ability and last week was his first back.

Would like to see Vanders or Oliver in the goal square for a few minutes each quarter. Great to see Weid playing so well and congrats to Goody for persisting with him. He may not be playing if Hogan wasnt injured but all of his prior games haved helped his confidence. Some intense goal practice for Petracca is advised.

Win or lose it is clear as day that this group of mostly young players is going to the top for quite a while. Go Dees.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!
